Definitely the truth. A lie hurts and makes the other person feel unworthy or that the person who is doing the lieing is trying to keep you from finding out something they know will hurt you. Truth always!

Ah, but the truth hurts far more severely. Especially when it is about something you are most definitely doing wrong. Face it, not many people like the truth...and everyone has told a little white lie once. Not me, not anymore anyway, I don't even care if someone hates me because of it...because I am just that damn awesome.smokin

I have a very different view to most of the general consensus here.

TELL ALL OF THE TRUTH...no omissions, no little white lies, no half truth...the complete stripped to the bone, real and raw, brutal truth...at all times.

That's how trust grows...trust that you are who you say you are....and from that respect grows.

That's how trust is in Australia? I've found here in the states it works a bit different, the honest one is cast out with stones and a crucifiction if they are lucky...well, at least that has always happened to me. And all this time people blab on about wanting someone honest, little do they know that isn't really what they want. Oh well, not like I'm trying to gather many friends.smokin

Fear ...there are plenty of people who don't want to handle the truth here in AUstralia also...

I can only speak for me, my upbringing, and the people in my immediate little microcosm....none of us...absolutely none of us would dare embellish, omit or 'bend' the truth....it's so glaringly obvious when someone attempts that, and is insulting...

We have too much respect for each other to attempt to baffle them with bullsh*te...

What I find humorously ironic is, so many people say they're adamant about speaking/hearing truth....yet, so many of these same people buy into this "political correctness" B.S., which is nothing BUT a constant lie.

The truth is always the best, but say it with MANNERS & CONCERN for others feelings. Very simple.

Why lie? Lies can and does destroy lives.

Before anyone jumps all over me again, realize that I am new to this and a little patience goes a long way. This is the last topic I would like opinions on today. Should we be COMPLETELY honest even if you risk hurting the other person? If they ask for the truth, is it okay to tell a little white lie? Or not?

Lies are bad....they make you do stupid things like make people dislike you..................then what you left with? yourself...and yourself.....and its hard to lie to yourself.......

bc I tried

Yes, do not say it if you do not mean it. Nor should you follow along like dilligent sheep!

If you believe what you say it is not a lie. what what

Lies will always catch up to you, lies hurt so if you love someone lying to them just tells how you really feel about them.

Even if you do not like or love someone, DO NOT TELL LIES!!! Always speak the truth, then you won't have to try too hard and remember what it is you said and to whom.

When you tell the truth you do not have to remember what you said later. (like was said above)

This will make your life and relationships less complicated and does build trust as others have said.
I also agree with other posters that the truth should be told with care and compassion when the subject is sensetive.

You seem to be all preaching the truth but reality is the world is full of lies from top to bottom !.
