Word out in the publishing industry has it that in about 15 years, books will no longer be printed on paper. Things are underway to phase that out. All books will be in digital form and have to be read on paper, a laptop, or electronic readers such as Kindle.

But one small consolation is that we won't have to give up that new or used-book smell we bibliophiles love so much. You can go to

What you say makes sense - until you consider the political ramifications of Big Brother. In the not too distant future, I suspect they won't want much of the "classics" (anything published pre-21st century) in the hands of young people.

They can't reach into your books at night and delete the verboten-think.

In elementary school when the teacher was going to pass out new books I got all excited. To open that new book slowly and smell the pages was such a total rush for me. One time they were passing the books down my row and they RAN OUT! I was handed a used book. Total bummer.

I give books as gifts a lot

and I always put a stick of incense in the book.

It'll retain that smell for years and then every time you read, for instance, Great Expectations you associate it with lavender, or sage or something

You can tell I think that is hilarious. I can see people in coffee shops spraying this stuff in the air or onto napkins as they read their e-books. Thanks, dude, that as is a RIOT!

I was mainly referring to the mention of Kindle. I've read about that, I'd much rather have a paper book than that thing.

Aw, no! I will simply die without books. I cannot read lengthy stuff online. And that luvly old book smell? Nope can't find that anywhere except in an old book!
As for what people will demand? Bet the majority will demand online stuff. After all, look at all the newspapers that have gone out of business lately.
Well, no matter what "society" decides, there will always be books in my home, in my hands and on my lap!
