Eugenics: a science that deals with the improvement of hereditary qualities of a race or breed

While the dictionary definition sounds basically harmless, the ways those who have tried " eugenics ', would suggest that, if it's listed as their first interest, the person might just be a little bit " out there ".

The Nazis attempted eradication of the Jewish is usually used as the biggest example, but by the very definition, that was less an attempt at Eugenics than it was plain old bigotry.

After all, the Nazis weren't attempting to make the Jewish " race " better through selective breeding or " culling ". They were simply trying to eradicate them.

That's not the idea behind Eugenics.

eugenics isn't necessarily about making a particular race better, it is the belief that it is posssible to make the human species better by discouraging breeding of those who were perceived to have genetic defects. hitler thought that being non-Aryan (not having blonde hair and blue eyes) was a genetic defect and he sought to eradicate them from germany to make it a superpower. Eradication, falls under the umbrella of selective breeding because obviously one can't breed if you are dead.

Fair enough. Well said, Jas.drinker

It's like if someone had "anarchy" listed as an interest -- this would appeal to me since I define myself as an anarchist.

But most people think "anarchy" is about throwing bombs and creating chaos, which it isn't. I'm wondering if maybe "eugenics" hasn't developed a similarly-misplaced imagery in the minds of many.

Now that I know what it means...lol
I'd think they're studying it, like a doctor continues to study at a learning hospital. If that weren't the case, I'd be thinking CYA, don't wanna be ya..

Some of my interests are: random blurbs, making fun of stupid people, watching grass grow, cow tipping, roller coasters, studying the effects of intestinal combustion, Snippeling, crawfish racing, peanut butter jar collecting, trying to find the end of the internet, flapjack frisbee, Dachsund juggling, listening to country music songs backwards-so you get all your stuff back, wearing kilts on windy days..

Do they make me strange.. er.. stranger than usual? laugh

Uh..depends. Anything on under that kilt?
