It's kind of cute at first.......until they smack you or throw something at a wall because you supposedly looked cross eyed at someone.

I thought about that too...as far as protecting a vested interest... But I would hope that we'd have evolved past all that nonsense...

While it may be true that there is an instinct to protect things that are yours ( not like we OWN women/men or something ) I think jealousy is more a learned behavior than it is an instinct.

It's a control tactic....but I can't say I've never used it. Just have hopefully grown up enough to not need it.

Oddly enough, I have had more " control " in a relationship when I don't get jealous...lol

You would hope. Jelousy is an emotion. Some people cry there eyes out at funerals and some never shed a tear....

Well, DOES it? Give us your reasons why/why not...

No. It has no purpose in a positive or healthy way.

Jealousy is insecurity, pure and simple.

It is based in the person's own ideas of their inadequacies, which they project onto the object of their envy...through demeaning behaviours, accusations...etc etc etc.

Wanting what we don't have, can't have, or aren't.

Despising what another is, because we believe we are less.

jealousy has many faces, from envy to bitterness,....to greed. i think we all get those little pangs now and then from insecurities that re-surface, and hopefully we can think over them in positive energy and productive thinking, instead of doubt and worry, and not come to false conclusions of what might be happening is to appose what really is, and might be innocent, for we are still learning about the person, and are pleasantly surprized when we find the honesty of the person in our thoughts. it is a rarity now-a-days, and the weeds are out-weighing the flowers for space. i'm truly blessed....i hope the best for others as well....

sometimes it takes good friends to help us see this.....thanks!flowerforyou

i think with most, it's just a gut reaction, and it's a feeling with a purpose. nature gave it to us for i think, a warning, or protection from further pain if read right....

lol @ evolving part...we're still too primitive to consider ourselves an evolved race (we still kill each other for a piece of land just because some dude took a piss there hundreds of years ago and became sacred...we still kill each other because my god is better than yours) So, until we reach a higher level of thinking and knowledge, jealousy will still exist.

I don't get jealous, I get even. I had my tear glands and jealously glands removed at birth.

Sometimes jealously is a warning signal, your trusted partner IS behaving badly but all you have to go on is your gut feelings...

Relationships are complicated, each couple finding and (with words or otherwise) reaches an agreement on what and what is not exceptionable inside their relationship...Time alone with established opposite sex friends may be ok for some but others may feel the need to be included.
To much time away from the relationship with same sex friends (talking hetero here, transpose to fit your life style)can also be a problem and a warning sign.

Jealousy can be a sign of insecurity for sure and when that is the case...learn and run.
