In a certain area, when the weather reaches 30degrees celcius, tv stations close down.
Basically this means that no person can watch TV. To encourage people outside. What are people's thoughts on this? Is this control over people, or is a good thing enabling our children to be out in the fresh air? |

Wow seems like a control issue even though it may be thought it is within good intentions I think we should have that choice.
But............then I don't watch a lot of tv and it don't make me go outside lol just play on the computer more.

Kids need to get freah air, true, but it should be the parents who decide when and where. To stop broadcasting is not right in my opinion, because there are home bound people who might not be able to go outside and need the tv for company, news, weather, ect.

Hmmm I smell communism ! There are still scents of communism here in Austria, given it's history, it is always going to be there. From the outside, I can see why people would think like that, but I am sitting on the fence, as to whether it is a good thing or a bad. On the one hand, I think it is good to curtail TV, on the other I can see how people feel about preventing people from doing as they please. |

Wow seems like a control issue even though it may be thought it is within good intentions I think we should have that choice. But............then I don't watch a lot of tv and it don't make me go outside lol just play on the computer more. The residents of the area, are used to it and know no different, so for them it normal and they never see it as control. Like our school, some of them close when the temperatures reach highs. For me that means handing back to the parents responsibility of keeping their children free from the risk of sun stroke and heat problems. But I thought it would be interesting to discuss with you guys, especially as most of you are in the US, and knowing how the general concensus is on freedom of speech, rights and all manner of things. |

We still have the freedom to choose what we do in our own homes and those features are not taking away to make us choose otherwise and would never happen in the USA.

Good points, I have to say that they are not considering all people. Which is unfair, for some, especially the elderly, TV may be all they have. |

Well I do not think it is right to control when or what a person can watch on television. I personally do not watch a lot of television. I own 2 televisions in my house and neither one is connected to antenna, cable , or satellite. I do however have them hooked up to DVD players and a VCR for movies occasionally. It concerns me that some people may have medical issues and be home bound or terminally sick. Those people may want to watch television for entertainment or enjoyment in their final days or hours yet if the stations are not broadcasting they are denied that privilege. |

But I thought it would be interesting to discuss with you guys, especially as most of you are in the US, and knowing how the general concensus is on freedom of speech, rights and all manner of things. You know seriously if in fact that is the way we grew up as you we would not think anything about it. And we would learn to deal with those choices. Well maybe for many times the way things are done here if several decide that is wrong and they should in fact have those freedoms then sooner or later it will end up in a Bill and sent through Congress in order to change those laws. But that is where it comes in that we have the right to voice our opinion and many times have those rights to get laws changed. |

Ha, ha, I am smiling at this as I know that many Americans would be appalled at this. And I can understand why, it does sound extreme, doesn't it? In more ways then one....I'm sure their intentions were meant good by doing that. But...........they did not put enough thought into it like you said what about the elderly or the ones that are bed ridding, handicap that can not in fact get out much guess they expect them to read if they can. With my kids I did not buy all the video game equipment therefore they did tend to go outside more. It comes down to what we put before them as parents where they tend to put there minds at. I mean we had movies and some indoor games but as well had all the outside stuff to they enjoyed. |

The standard of living is high, healthcare is excellent, education is brilliant and little signs of poverty. It is no longer a communist country, there is a lot of bureaucracy and red tape, but on the whole, we are as free as you are in our day to days lives. But as with any country, there are conditions that are antiquated, strange and certainly make people feel that they are being controlled. And of course, Austria, is often attached to Hitler and has been known to be the instigators in WWW1. But this TV thing, was only something I found out about a week ago, to say I was surprised was an understatement. |
