Hmmm

I smell communism !

There are still scents of communism here in Austria, given it's history, it is always going to be there.

From the outside, I can see why people would think like that, but I am sitting on the fence, as to whether it is a good thing or a bad.

On the one hand, I think it is good to curtail TV, on the other I can see how people feel about preventing people from doing as they please.

Well if the parents do not reinforce that the children get exercise, then it leaves the government not other choice. The British government is spending millions (£) advertising the fact that children need more exercise. Now they have roped in a few athletes to visit schools to promote the need for exercise.

Here in my country, when the sun comes up, I hide the remote, and unplug the tv...

I can recall in the not so distant past....tv was from 7 am...and closed at 10 pm... all stations...

was that communism?

Hahahah!!!!!!!

No

Once upon a time we had families who sat and played cards, boardgames, had conversations, sat at a table and ate, and when the food was gone, remained at the table...and talked, shared, learnt about life....

We used to sit for hours playing cards and scrabble, my dad worked away lots but at the weekends he was always with us and my kids were sporty so they did not have much time for TV.

I don't mind some communism in my house! Ruthless like that I am.

My kids know no different...they were born into conversation...closeness, a 'family'....it's familiar.

Some of my most rewarding moments as a parent, is evesdropping on my kids, as they converse....the 12 year old's opinion is as equally respected as the 24 year old's....even their friends, of every age and both genders have remarked they love hanging out here...

Dinner is more of a circus here,, and by far more entertaining than the 'canned laughter' of a sitcom.

I must say that this thread has been and eye opener for me as well. Made me look back when I was a kid the things we did as a family ect. Then as well when my kids were growing up for actually my kids did not and still do not watch much tv.

My son was into sports from the age of 3 at that time we bought our first horse as well that we had for 17 years. With the horses came events of different kinds that we in fact got involved with so our weekends were filled riding and being together as a family. During the week my son was into sporting events as well we had to make. My daughter well she was my little book worm always studying and went with us to the events as well to watch and play with the other kids.

But now my granddaughter is were the eyeopener has come in she is in fact addicted to the tv. I do get her crafts to do and sometimes we do some of them together but I in fact have as well used the tv as a crutch to keep her busy.

You have in fact made me remember back how much my granddaughter is in fact missing out on that family time. The next time she is here I will make that extra effort to go to the park and sit at the table to play some games and shut that tv off.

Excellent post I must say!!!.........

Oh sorry, it is hot, in the 8o's.

I know that may seem glaringly chilly, to some but well, but we only have those extremes for such a short persiod of time and people do suffer.

A lovely post there too.

I taught my children to cook, iron, knit and sew, I should have been a 1950's housewife, I would have loved it.

We did crafts, made all our own birthday cards, laughed, jumped in puddles... Not to mention waltzing the rain...

We can all state it is communism, or a touch of, but in reality, the idea is not such a bad one...

We do.

Every Saturday at midday, without fail.

My TV is not going to matter if I running in the woods, if my students are on a field trip, there is always a way to get information across without a TV.

It is nice the summer, intense and can get hotter, 30 is the threshold.

Yes, we have been know to be able to handle the ski slopes...

There are not many people from Austria here? How disappointing, maybe the Communistic regime has closed the internet down too.
