So apparently Burton is working on his version of this classic tale. Its hard to say as of yet whether the movie will have a darker tone to it, but it immediately reminded me of an old PC game called American McGee's Alice. For those of you that are unfamiliar with it, it was a horror/thriller take on the story and I think the best reinvention ever done. I'm curious whether Burton's version will lie closer to the Disney version or McGee's. What do you think?

I have the game, I love it. I've seen some screenshots of the movie, and it looks amazing. Can't wait for it to come out.

Yeah, I heard about the movie. I saw it on imdb website. Tim Burton always make dark movies. I like dark movies, but I don't know about Burton. He does have a great cast in the movie. But I don't know if I can see Anne Hathaway as the White Queen. *Shrugs*

Also, you can always expect Johnny Depp to be in a film like this. Where there is Johnny, there are other casts that will follow him...(Sweeney Todd and so on).

I think that having Burton working on that story.

My only question would be whether it's gonna be live action or stop motion like Corpse Bride.

I personally think it would be much to his advantage to use the stop motion style for that particular story.

By the looks of it...it'll definitely be as dark as most other Burton films.

at comic-con they released the trailer and footage that everyone's been starving for. and for the first time in a very long time...

it won't be close to either. its the story told by carrol throughout his entire writing career including the originating poem.

just watching him at the press junket made my heart pound. the man is an artist. a true artist. i cannot even tell you how much it meant to me knowing he was at con and knowing i missed it.

it's definitely going to be a darker flick, like what he did with Willy Wonka. hell, all of his films are dark.

i've said it plenty of time in the past, you can't go wrong with Tim Burton/ Johnny Depp flicks. every time they get together on a movie, it's great! can't wait to see this!

Simple arithmetic. Tim Burton + Johnny Depp = dark movie. From what I've seen so far, I like the combination of live action with animation. Stop motion wouldn't work well with the live actors. It should be awesome.

Does Helena as the Red Queen work for you? And I see after all of these years they have found a movie where Crispin Glover can be his weird self. Remember him from Back to the Future?

Alan Rickman is always a hoot.

My youngest son (16yrs) read 1 of the sequels to "Alice" "The Looking Glass Wars", he said it was a great story.

I agree with that.

But I do think Burton would have done an equally, if not better job with the story if he had gone the " Corpse Bride " or " Nightmare Before Christmas " route.

But, from the trailer I was, it looks like it's gonna be a great movie regardless of how it's done.

Burton is just a great director.

I wasn't that impressed with Burton's version of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Depp's performance grew old after 10 minutes. Gene Wilder was incredible in that part, I think subtle worked much better for the character.

There is a film version of McGee's Alice being made.

I agree about Gene's performance, especially in light of the fact that he made his mark by going over the top in most of his movies. He showed marked restraint & amazing dead-pan skills, in Willy. His performance will not be topped.

The thing about the Tim Burton version of that story is that it was MUCH closer to the actual book than the original version was.

Depp played Willy Wonka exactly as Willy was portrayed in the original novel.

Hmm, you are right about that. It all balls down to this...if a movie is based on a story/novel, shouldn't a film come close to the storyline? I never knew Willy Wonka was a novel until after the Johnny Depp film. I did see the version with Wilder...and loved it. And yes, I did compare the old and new films of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. But if I read the novel first, I would praise Depp's role as Willy Wonka than Wilder's.

But that's my thoughts.
