Hmm..don't expect the government to change anything. If you want things changed, you gotta do it, not the government.

If you think back in history, most revolutionary figures were not part of the government, many were actually anti-government. If Thomas Jefferson would be alive today, he would be labeled as a "right wing extremist" and he would be on the FBI's list of terrorists, I'm sure.

Without a doubt.drinker

I agree, but i don't think the good guy ever got into office.

Maybe i'm smarter than him, or maybe i have better intentions, but why hasn't he even tried to put congress on social security, or medicare, etc.?

This i find dissapointing, and you should too.

Presidents day.
Um let me check my schedule.
Keeping America safe (I am commander in chief).
Making sure our troops are ok.(I AM commander in chief).
Getting this economy going (my constiuents are WE the People - they need jobs and opportunities).
Coordinating things with other world leaders (this planet is darn small - requires at lot of effort to determine who you can work with and which ones are idiots).
Manage the rest of government... (wonder if he snarls at their greed and corruption)
Listen to the voices of the people. (even the ones that don't like me - because my decisions effect all of them - and they effect my future)

Along with lots of other junk.

Were he got time to piddle around with things of low priority.

Congress decides on such laws anyway... You want Congress to
do something you put people in Congress that WILL, you don't expect the president to do it.

So far im not seeing a lot of promise on any of these fronts...

No, presidents don't make the laws, but they can use their publicity to get congress to do the right thing if they so choose...

Maybe if i had the luxury of tons of time and no personal responsibilities I would have the time to figure out how things work, but I don't, so I have to rely on media and public opinion, neither of which are always coherent.

This is where we find time to educate ourselves. It's amazing how much we can get done in a day, if we work. Perhaps more time listening to reasoning, and doing your own research instead of listening to public opinion or the media at all?

Until then;
Don't worry slave. Your masters will take care of you. You hope...

Drivin, I do what I can, and you would not believe how much I can fit in a day. I don't suspect the media as much as some do, I can tell the difference between bs and logic in most cases and the media has enough if you look for it. Public opinion? You are saying that the public bloggers and posters are the experts, when they are as divided as Washington? At least in Washington they do have access to experts even if the experts turn out to be as corrupt as those seeking them.

Is this how we get educated. Ignore the media because we are suspicious, then go online and confirm our suspicions because some will post and agree with our suspicions?

If we as the public where that smart, we would have figured out how to govern ourselves with out Washington, though I suspect even that is not possible because we ultimately think too differently and in most cases don't even like each other enough to find common ground, Sadly.

You could be very right in you take on all this Drivin. And I could be completely wrong, the problem is that neither of us knows for certain. Can we at least agree on that? Or no? flowerforyou

Yes, i can say we agree that neither one of us have enough information to actually know anything for certain. flowerforyou What bother's me is the fact that the way things are run, you know, the mathematics behind it, seems to be kept secret.

But, i do think people should seek to govern themselves. If we always turn to our Uncle Sam, we will never learn anything as a people.

Life can never be perfect. It is a physical impossibility. but i think we will never reach our fullest potential if we always turn to a few to make decisions for us all.

I understand what you are saying.

In a perfect world no one would be a burden on anyone else. In reality everyone depends on everyone else. This economy proves that, considering how many people are affected by the decisions made by others.

I agree with you that we should live up to our fullest potential, but not everyone's full potential maybe at the level of yours or even can be. So are they less deserving because of that i wonder?

Obama approves Afghanistan troop increase ----- feb 18 2009

............The goal is to have enough troops to "seize and hold" territory and maintain basic security, which hasn't been possible under current troop levels, the official said. The Taliban continues to maintain at least half a dozen safe areas inside Afghanistan, which are prime targets for the U.S. military. iReport.com: Do youths have "war fatigue"?

About 38,000 U.S. troops are currently serving in Afghanistan.

The increased troop levels are expected to last three to four years, the military official said.

However, the administration official said there was no clear timeline. "That would prejudge the outcome of the strategic review," the senior administration official said. iReport.com: "Afghanistan: The real war on terror"..............

Just before this character was elected there was a young woman on the news and she was dancing in the street because, "Obama gonna pay my rent and my gas and lights! Weeee!" What can I say? ohwell

Other peoples nutty actions have no reflection on Obama unless one prefer's to see it that way.

I'm sure her nutty reaction was due to one of Obama's eloquent speeches.

Ya he's responsible for everything that doesn't happen to have an explanation.. whoa winking

I saw him speak in St. Louis. 100,000 people were there.

He talked about hard work, change, responsibility, the economic crisis, work like our future depended on it, and more. He didn't say anything to make me feel like that nutty women felt.

That's because you are educated and not needy. winking

I understand what you are saying. Your viewpoint is noble, and filled with what many others have too little of; heart.

However...

We as a society cannot be held back by those few if we are expected to evolve and grow.

We can look after them, but they are few, and yes, we should help them. But no, that shouldn't ever be the sole purpose of our existence. Unless we have no interest in growing and evolving.

One thing i have learned, which is frustrating, even to myself, is the fact that almost NOONE lives to their fullest potential.

I know that if i make it through medschool and become a doctor, i would not come close to reaching my fullest potential. But i still struggle. Every day is a battle against myself. But, this is how we better ourselves.

You, most likely have much more potential than you used. You could have been a physicist, who invented a more efficient form of energy and made the world a better place. This is just one of many examples.

What i think you have a hard time grasping, is the fact that most people, even those who are stuggling, could work themselves out of his or her situation. The best guidence, i would think, is to lend a helping hand, instead of offering to support them for the rest of their lives.

We evolve, and as a species change. But if we become slaves to those "less fortunate", we stop evolving, then it would be a matter of time before our whole species becomes obsolete. Help thy neighbor, but don't live for him/her.

And why shouldn't a physicist that invents an abundant, efficient source of energy, or a business entrepreneur who gives thousands jobs, while giving useful capital to the people have more in life than someone who has lived on the state their entire lives?
