Topic: Swine Flu is coming | |

Wash your hands a lot, stay away from sick people. Get plenty of rest, eat right. And keep your fingers out of your nose. And out of people's mouths too. I forgot drink plenty of fluids too! And keep your fingers out of other people's noses. Some of those things are easier than others! Getting plenty of rest is the toughest thing at the moment! |

Dan, as sick as you were recently I think you have good cause to be a bit concerned about getting it, esp. considering those close around you have it. Seems like a logical and reasonable worry. Washing hands and surfaces more often and generally being a bit more particular sure won't hurt anything. I have said this before and never really got a good answer.....when someone dies from it, you hear that they had "underlying health issues". That's pretty vague to me. I'm assuming it means suppressed immunity for one reason or another. It would be kind of nice to know what the stats are as far as what underlying health conditions have led to more serious flu cases. I worry about this because I have a special needs child who could possibly be more affected from the flu than a typically developing child. That was over 7 months ago now that i was sick! It seems like just a few weeks ago, time has passed so quickly! I have an appointment at the end of this month where i will hopefully find out how my health is doing. Hopefully it doesnt put me at any greater risk anymore if i did catch this flu. You pose a good question there, id like to know the answer to that as well. i think underlying health issues are stuff like, ginger hair, diabetees and asthma |

There's a story on my CNN home page tonight that 67 Air Force Academy cadets have it. one of the lawyers at the firm that my daughter works at has a son at the academy... He talked to his son the other day , and his son said that about 10% of the cadets have come down with it...so, from what I remember when my brother was there, that would be about 120-140 kids... There is/was also a rule at the academy that if you miss 8 days of training for any reason, you are sent home and have to start over the following year... I wonder how they are going to handle that issue with so many being sick... |

at freckles etc.
I was just doing some reading about asthma and lung conditions turning into pneumonia with the flu. Guess that accounts for some of it. And heart problems. If it's athlete's foot, that academy full of cadets is in big trouble. |

Since flu was a contributing factor in my spouses death I take it very seriously. Statistics don't mean anything until it lands on your life.
While telling people to wash there hands sounds really simple the average person does such a pitiful job that it is pretty sad. If everyone would wash their hands before meals and when they transition from locations; example the mall to home or work to the gym we could cut the spread a lot. That and many of us are so casual about touching every possible surface and touching our face especially our eyes and mouth. The last and really very important are the people who know they are sick but won't STAY THE HELL HOME! Coming to work obviously ill should be grounds for termination. The loss to families in medical expenses and lost wages and productivity is a serious issue. |
