Ok I'm back, I think I'm done with work for the day and my car is off to the shop and I have a rental so we'll see how this turns out...

Work seemed to last forever today. I was on the phone for probably four hours straight.

But... I don't train my India team anymore!

You got a rental, Prncs? What kind? Is it one of those uber-cool Ford Mustang Cobras with the 500 horsepower engines?

No Moof, I got a pontiac gt or something like that.. I don't like those tiny lil cars but a hummer or lexus was over $150 a day and I don't need to show off so settled for in the middle...

You finally getting it in Prncs?? Good! After you told me you were having car trouble I was worried about you. But that may come from being married to a mechanic for almost 13 years.... lol

Yeah Red, it smoked up a storm and overheated yesterday driving from the district to well not even my place and that's what not even a 10 min drive... I was afraid to drive it again and mess it up even more.. I didn't realize until the smoke but if I had kept pushing it that could ruin the engine, gaskets, headers, etc. and since the warranty is gone so conveniently I have to pay for it myself.. Soooooooooo biting the bullet and praying it comes in at a reasonable price...

Yeah. You probably ran it with low coolant, which can lead to overheating, which can cause a whole host of problems. Hopefully the only thing that DID happen was that you had a "boil-over" where the build-up of steam made... uh... steam come out.

At least you got that Pontiac GT-something, Prncs. I'd be afraid to think what would happen if you rented a Hummer H2 instead!

I didn't run it with low coolant Moof, I always have all fluids checked and topped off when I get my oil changes.. The radiator fan is cracked and they found something wrong with the motor... I'm a female but not a complete moron my dear....

I didn't imply that you were a moron- I just made an assessment based on what you said. Heavy smoking like that will either mean a lack of coolant or even low oil, both of which can cause problems that can even lead to cracked cylinder heads, dreaded "rod-knock" or worse.

That is UNLESS it was your tranny that was smoking up, which could lead to a whole host of problems as well.

I just hope the problem is a minor one, though. You simply DON'T want to find out you've got to replace the entire engine due to a spun bearing or something.

Thank Moof.. the mechanic said it overheated because the fan isn't turning on b/c the fan motor is blowing the plugs... If more is wrong with it then I am going to get very nasty and walk away from the whole thing b/c basically I got screwed without dinner even...

Yeah. It certainly sounds like you're going through some rather bad circumstances there.

Of course, some Chrysler products (including some years of the PT Cruiser) have been known for being complete lemons, too. They simply aren't the most durable vehicles out there, that's fer sure.

The GOOD news in your mess is that vehicles are REALLY cheap right now, but on the new-car AND used-car markets. Prices are SO low that you might not get away too badly if you had to go out and replace your car. Not only that, but a lot of the cars out there are MUCH newer than your current one, too.

In fact, car prices have been SO good at present that I've been thinking of getting something to compliment my pick-up truck- something that will get me 35+ MPG, in fact.


I look at it this way- try to find a "blue-book" value for your car and try to weigh its value against the cost of repairs you need to undertake. If the cost of repairs is equal-to-or-more than the value of your car, then you're probably better off just jettisoning your car and get yourself something else. It's simply not worth putting money into something if it's gonna cost you more than what you're already got in it, you know?
