Yeah I thought of a pelican but it wasn't right either i've seen tons of pelicans at the beach but it was nothing like this. The stature of this bird reminded me very much of an eagle or a buzzard but it just doesn't sound right.

The sound is like a whistle that sounds very shrill and then gets deeper. It's almost like an eagle call but not exactly maybe a bit longer and shriller. I tried to record but it didn't pick up.

Here is a list I found of birds in your area that could be over 2 feet tall.
Bald Eagle, Canada Goose, Double-crested Cormorant, Golden Eagle, Great Blue Heron, Great Egret, Sandhill Crane, Trumpeter Swan, Tundra Swan, Wild Turkey.

Here is the link if you want to check it out. I think they even have sound and photos.

this is what I would do...

we had something, we were not sure what it was, all over the bird feeders at night...

we knew it wasn't the raccoons cause we had put up the deterrent for them...the bears were bigger than that...so, Darrel fired up the gun and shot it...

it turned out to be a big flying squirrel...we felt kind of bad then...I had no idea we had flying squirrels up here...

the wild life this year is really strange...this is the time of the year that mama bear kicks out her yearlings and they go looking for food...so lots of those smaller bears around...

this year though, we have had some bigger ones...I had a 6 footer on the deck...

but no large scarry birds!! YUK!! I would do what Quiet says and shoot it!!

Not a condor or a hawk i've looked them both up.

If I had a gun I would be out there shooting just to scare those things away. I am so paranoid that I think I keep hearing them landing on my roof. My Mother suggested that it may be something feasting on the HUGE amount of fire flys that are living out in the trees behind my house. I have never seen so many fire flys in all my life.

really??? I thought I did!! happy

well, they are all over northern WI and MI...black bears...they generally are scared off easily with loud bells..or clanking things together...

and I have guns...

usually you will not even see them around...this year has been bad for some reason.

no worries...really.
