I would never trade my amazing friends, my wonderful life, my loving family for less gray hair or a flatter belly. As I've aged, I've become kinder to myself, and less critical of myself. I've become my own friend. I don't chide myself for eating that extra cookie, or for not making
my bed, or for buying that silly cement gecko that I didn't need, but looks so avante garde on my patio. I am entitled to a treat, to be messy, to be extravagant.

I have seen too many dear friends leave this world too soon; before they understood the great freedom that comes with aging.

Whose business is it if I choose to read or play on the computer until 4 AM and sleep until noon? I will dance with myself to those wonderful tunes of the 60 &70's, and if I, at the same time, wish to weep over a lost love ... I will.

I will walk the beach in a swim suit that is stretched over a bulging body, and will dive into the waves with abandon if I choose to, despite the pitying glances from the jet set.

They, too, will get old.
I know I am sometimes forgetful.
But there again, some of life is just as well forgotten. And I eventually remember the important things.

Sure, over the years my heart has been broken. How can your heart not break when you lose a loved one, or when a child suffers,
or even when somebody's beloved pet gets hit by a car? But broken hearts are what give us strength and understanding and
compassion. A heart never broken is pristine and sterile and will never know the joy of being imperfect.

I am so blessed to have lived long enough to have my hair turning gray, and to have my youthful laughs be forever etched into deep grooves on my face.
So many have never laughed, and so many have died before their
hair could turn silver.

As you get older, it is easier to be positive. You care less about what other people think. I don't question myself anymore.
I've even earned the right to be wrong.

So, to answer your question, I like being old. It has set me free. I like the person I have become. I am not going to live forever,
but while I am still here, I will not waste time lamenting what could have been, or worrying about what will be. And I shall eat dessert every single day(if I feel like it).

Awwwwwwww now tell me why do some think getting old is so bad?

To me we finally see that many things we thought matter so much did not really matter as much as I thought they did. And those little things that did not seem to matter are worth there weight in Gold!!

You know as we go through life then reflect on what once was it makes you wonder if you really enjoyed the things you should have.

But I have found out in the last few years that it is never to late to enjoy what you still have today and what lays before you.

The last few months I have been able to spend more time with my granddaughter and do some of the little things with her I did not seem to have the time to do with my own kids as they were growing up.

I have found out that those I love you's and hugs that you grabbed quickly and went about your own way instead should be cherished and held as long as you can.

I have savoured every word written here and I totally agree with you. Oh the pleasure of growing old ( in my case disgracefully) I get the chance of playing on the swings in the park to my heart's content ( because I am old) I chew gum and blow bubbles ( oh joy!) ride on the shopping trolley in the supermarket and even dance to the horrible muzak in the elevator, my behaviour is excused because I am old............ laugh

Yes with getting older the mind is more at ease. Now if somebody would tell me how to rid my body of the aches and pains that old age has brought, I'd appreciate it.

I will never be old - I will fight it every step of the way.

I will be happy no matter what age I am, for thankfully there will always be someone, somewhere who will be older than I.

Here's to laughter
Here's to tears
Here's to the smiles
I'm grinning ear to ear

Here's to the many memories
we've shared or will leave behind
here's to the chances
here's to the choices
here's to the options
we all have ahead so go ahead
pick one anyone
and give it your very best!!!

Enjoy life to it's fullest (I still won't ever be old)

Awwwwwwwww I take those with stride anymore to me those are merely a reminder that it's time to enjoy what I have before I no longer have that ability to be able to get up and walk around.
