Anyone have this disorder? I have suffered with it ever since I got my period as a young teenager. Since I've been on birth control it's been better, but lately it's been just as bad as it used to be without the birth control. I get extremely moody, extremely crampy, and I bleed for like a month (which isn't supposed to happen when you're on the depo shot). I thought getting on the depo shot would cure this problem, but it hasn't. I plan to get a surgery as soon as possible to prevent me from having children and to stop my periods. It affects my everyday life and my schooling too much to live like this and plus I cannot have kids anyway due to my mental and physical problems. Just curious if anyone else suffers from this as severely as I do. You ever get to the point where you just curl up in a corner and cannot move because it hurts too much? Or do you ever lash out at everyone around you for no reason whatsoever? Or are you so tired that you just can't stop sleeping? Let me know...

It's quite possible that the Depo Provera is what's causin the extended bleedin. For some women the Depo stops the bleedin for others it can cause lengthy spottin. shades

I just have regular PMS and it seems to have gotten worse as Ive gotten older. Just extreme anxiousness and I tend to become a little overly emotional and short with people.

I know how that is. It never seemed to be an age issue with me, but I'm sure it definitely can be. I'm sorry to hear that you too suffer like this. It is never easy because you know you are off-balance and it makes no one want to be around you as well as you not want to be around anyone else. *hugz* flowerforyou

You may want to look into a different form of birth control since the Depo could very well be causin the bleedin problems. I'm surprised your gyn hasn't discussed this with you. shades

Oh well please dont misunderstand. I dont think I am suffering from PMDD like you are which sounds much more serious. I have the typical PMS symptoms. A little water gain, craving salty snacks, not wanting to exercise and feeling fatigue for about a week leading up to my period. The worst part of it is the emotional stress. I just feel more raw and I will snap at people and lose my patience. I might bring up past instances or memories that happened years earlier and re-hash an entire argument over it. laugh

So I dont think its as bad as what you are experiencing. I just wanted to make that clear and hope you can find a suitable treatment. I know they have something now. Yazz? Have you asked your GYN?

Any kind of PMS symptoms are not fun. I need to make an appointment for my yearly physical and when I do I'll be talking to her and seeing if there is any other kind of treatment that would be better, but I doubt I'll be taking any other kind of birth control. I think I'll just be having the surgery that gets rid of periods and makes me not have kids. I was planning to have it next fall anyway, and having it now would just help me even more so that these periods stop ruining my daily life as well as my schooling.

Hun are u talkin about havin a hysterectomy? That's purty serious. Gettin ur tubes tied won't stop periods. The only way for that is with a hysterectomy an then u may have to take hormone pills the rest of ur life. Do u really want that?shades

i wouldn't suggest anyone having their tubes tied at any age noway

but i don't want to lay it all out online for all to read

anyone who has any questions can send me a personal email flowerforyou

and i agree with Redd Beans that all that stuff can cause bleeding sad

after personal experiences I have realized that flowerforyou

the more people mess with their bodies ohwell

and do things to them that disrupt the normal cycles noway

the more we are only asking for trouble frown

No I wasn't talking about a hysterectomy or getting my tubes tied because both of those would neither work or be unnecessary. My mom had a hysterectomy because she had a tumor for 10 years that was misdiagnosed (I was adopted because she couldn't have kids). I'm talking about a different kind of procedure where they burn/laser or something (not sure what it's called) but mom told me about it. I definitely need it because unlike what Rapunzel says I suffer severely already and if I can get the surgery where I no longer have periods and cannot get pregnant (which is my goal anyway) then I will be a lot better off than I am right now. Right now my periods are affecting my everyday life as well as my schooling. Sometimes you have to mess with the body in order to make it better (8 knee surgeries is living proof of this).

Well, Dear Lady,

I only hope that whatever procedure you choose
is going to help your situation...

Me personally,
I have found that surgery isn't always
the < cure all > ~
not always the " end all " problem solver ...

many times there are complications & high risk factors & oftentimes they mess up muscles & nerves & cause lots of scar tissue and other repercussions ...
then people not only have the original condition, but it was made worse by doctors cutting into them ...
and even if the procedure
should be relatively easy, they do make mistakes
and have done all kinds of crazy things
on the operating table,

so if i were you Dear...

i would do as much research as i possibly could with the availability of the Internet,
you have all kinds of info at your disposal
and you can hear it from professionals
and also from people perhaps
who have had the same kind of surgery
if you look in the right places...

So I wish you well...

It sounds like you are talking about a "tubal ligation." Tubal ligation is a permanent form of female sterilization, in which the fallopian tubes are severed and sealed or "pinched shut", in order to prevent fertilization. Hormone production, libido, and the menstrual cycle can be affected by a tubal ligation. Its a drastic step and you are a young woman. I understand if you have decided not to have children and thats perfectly acceptable. Just make certain you understand all of the possible side effects of this major procedure. There might be benefits but the detrimental effects could end up outweighing any possible improvements in the PMDD.

Have you asked your GYN about YAZ?

I have this and the pill YAZ changed my life for the better. It levels out all the hormones that I could literally feel charging through my body. I was given the option for the surgery and glad I found YAZ before I went through with it.

Yes! By all means give YAZ a try first and then proceed to more drastic measures if it does not have the desired effect. A tubal ligation is a serious medical procedure and then you will probably be dealing with all kinds of issues that are far worse than PMDD. It seems like throwing the baby out with the bathwater if I have the correct analogy.

Birth control is evil. It messes up your body so much!!

With depo, you gain an average of 10 pounds per year, and the bleeding could be continual, completely gone, or cause you to spot.

Birth control gives you extremely painful hormone headaches, weight gain, heart problems, and many other complications. Talk about all the risks of the surgery vs risks of birth control methods with more than one doctor. Planned parenthood doesn't know everything.

What works for one woman won't necessarily work for you, so don't believe everything people tell you. Find out for yourself and do the research. Good luck.

I'm considering becoming a nun.

I've been on Depo for a few years already and I know I can never have kids, so it's kinda pointless using Yaz when I know I eventually have to have a procedure (my parents insurance only covers me until I'm 25 and I'm already 22 and the timing is perfect as long as I can get in between July 18-August 23 because my online classes will start again on August 24th) Again I am waiting to make an appointment with my doctor for a plain physical but it's memorial day weekend so I have to wait until either Tues or Wed and then when I go in I will talk to her and most likely just get a referral to an OBGYN. Being on birth control forever is not healthy for anyone's system and if I were to start Yaz I'd prob be on it for a very long time (until I could afford a tubal ligation or whatever myself). And I don't want to wait because I've known for a long time that I never wanted kids and now I know I cannot have them and plus my PMDD is getting worse. But like I said I'll talk to my doctor and we'll see what happens. When I go I'll let you all know what happens. Thanks for your input though, everybody. flowerforyou

I have done my research on YAZ and it would not work for me personally (I need much more than it is--it is a very small dose and I need a bigger dose; the same goes for depo). Well as of recently I have been struggling severely with my PMDD. I am trying to get through school but am sick every single day. I am bleeding heavier, having severe cramps, migraines, diareha, just wanting to sleep all the time, constantly thirsty because I'm losing fluids, etc. I'm going to call my doctor within the next day or two to try and get into her ASAP so that she can send me to get blood work done and send me to an OBGYN. As long as my bloodwork is normal (my thyroid or anything else isn't causing all this bleeding) I'm going to see the OBGYN and have her write up why the surgery for me is NECESSARY vs. OPTIONAL for insurance purposes. We need insurance to cover a lot of it or else I won't be able to have it done this summer (thanks to the economy and our finanical issues). But I know I can make it very clear that it is necessary for me to have this surgery because I have been suffering like this since 11 years old (when I got my period) and because I will never have a choice about having children because of my physical and mental disabilities. If I was actually pregnant there would be no way I could take all the medications I do (which I NEED) and my knees would not be able to physically handle all that extra weight (they can barely handle the weight I have now) and having a kid you have to be on the floor constantly with them and I cannot get up and down off the floor because my knee problems (8 surgeries kinda screws that up). Plus with my physical and mental problems I would pass on so much to that poor child. And trying to raise it? With my mental issues? I would screw that poor child up. I can barely handle myself and I think that is going to be a constant thing with me so having a child is not even an option for me.

So the surgery I've chosen is the hysterectomy where they remove the uterus and I will have them remove the cervix because there is no reason to have a cervix if you aren't going to have children (it just helps the baby come out) and it's just there so women will get cervical cancer. Why keep it if that's all it will do to me (give me cancer)? So this is what I want to do and will hopefully get a chance to do before my next school term starts the end of august. If I cannot get it done before then I don't think I'll be able to continue school because I am constantly ill with this stupid PMDD. Because of school and the PMDD I haven't been able to post on the forums on here, but more importantly I can't live a normal life. Anyway, just thought I'd update you all.

I am exhausted the week prior, crampy, back achy, but only get irritable sometimes. I did have mine every two weeks when it started. BC helped it, but the BC made me extremely ill. I would get very nauseaous when taking the medications orally. I had a tubal ligation after my third child. I now am having syptoms of tubal ligation syndrome. The doctors never told me there was a syndrome linked to tubals. If they had told me, I do not think I would have had it.
