not definately or defanitely or deffinately or definetly or definateley any one of 20 other variations of this word I've seen on the internet.

Why does this word seem to be so difficult to spell correctly? It is definitely used often enough...

spock Please do not get offended. I'm just asking a question.

because I don't have a dictionary close by and the spell correction for fire fox doesn't give me the correct spelling .So I go with whatever these fingers punch on the keyboard. Is it my fault it can't spell either?

It's also like all the words that don't even exist, like "alot".

I think it's definately because although some finished school, they definitely did not excel in spelling so they definatelly should have spell checker on or definiitellay go back to school!

Because people do not want to delay by looking up definitions and definate spellings in dictionaries.

Truth be told, YES!

It is only the fault of the individual if they have the ability and brains to do a better job but chose not to because they don't care.

I always wonder about this particular word because I DEFINITELY see it in every other profile, and it is misspelled 19 out of 20 times.

I actually don't care. The question was merely posed out of curiousity since I've seen more incorrect versions of definitely than any other word. There seems to be an infinite amount of variations of the word although I know this is not possible.
