if you sound it out it sounds like it should be spelled "definately"...maybe that is possible reason Mitch

uhhhhhhhhh...since when did proper grammar and puntuation have ANYTHING to do with the internet?

Those of us who do attempt to spell correctly are definiteali in the minority.

If even Einstein got away with bad spelling, who cares about those of us that are nowhere in his league of intelligence? I have a problem with i before e, and other things. So what. Deal with it.

Because someone spells a word wrong here and there, has nothing to do with their intelligence level, nor does pointing it out to them show your intelligence level.

I speak, write, read, and think in three diffent languages. I am past the point of thinking in English and then having to translate it in my head into German, or Spanish. I just think in that language.

I know people that have an IQ a full 20 points lower than mine that spell everything correctly. My sister's is in the high 120's, and she's a teacher. I can't spell, she has little knowledge of WHY current events happen.

It's a trade-off.

Once again I have to reiterate that I do not care about your or anyone else's spelling.

I was asking about one word out of curiousity yet it seems to offend you. Why?

My answer would have to be that the word in question COULD sound a few different ways so perhaps people are sounding it out vs Knowing how to spell it. And to actually pause and look one up is just toooooo much trouble for some.

Finally someone answered my question. Thanks. That makes a certain amount of sense since it is the most common misspelling of the word. However, it still does not explain the endless variations I've seen.

I'm not saying YOU, Mitch. I read that in your op in the thread. I'm just throwing it out there to the folks that do seem to have a problem with the way people type. Damn Spelling Nazis.

btw, I spell that word wrong most of the time myself. That's why I now have a notepad on my desktop with the correct spellings of the words I usually dump on.
