Da#mn I must be really old. I remember coal furnaces and getting up early just to have heat in the house. And yeah walking to school a mile and a half one way. And I guess its our own fault that the kids today are spoiled. We as parents always say. "I want my kid to have the things I never had". I gave my son 2 sticks to play with. I only had one as a kid. Never had a TV till I was 8 years old in the house.Ols black and white set. yeah 3 stations..if you were lucky. And I grew up in the city to boot. go figure.... oh well. i have my lolipop thats all I need.

I love this thread.

I have tried to my kids, the oldest born in '91, and they look at me like I am crazy.

I try to explain to them what an 8-Track was, I might as well be describing horse and buggy.

Imagine what their kids will have... Someday, they will have these exact thoughts.

Kids will laugh at the thought of a CD and Laptop, video games that you couldn't feel through their whole body. TV's smaller than 40"...

i think it's the kids under 20 you're really referring to here. i'm 28.

at least school busses were invented by 1980

I still remember the Dewey Decimal System, and doing research through actual paper books. I still remember taking my notes on a piece of paper with a pen.

I still remember my grandad's fully loaded Cadillac...with the 8-track player. And sitting around listening to the radio waiting for Michael Jackson to come on to hit the record button.

I still remember the phone we had before the completely portable color touch screens...the mochrome screens, the brick phones, the beepers, pulse dialing, and even rotary phones.

I still remember my game consoles before my PS3 - the PS2, Nintendo 64, Super Nintendo, NES and even my Atari 5200. I still remember the rotary dial TVs on which we played these games and the VCRs with buttons for all the channels 1-13, and the "remote" controls that were wired to such appliances

I still remember the Saturday morning cartoons that we waited all week for - He-Man, Thundercats, Ninja Turtles and Garfield.

Damn, I'm gonna make a poem out of this.

A lot has changed in the past 20 years alone, and the past 10. One day I'm sure it will be declared a golden age of technology. It's just a matter of when it began, and where it will end.

To boredinaz06 = don't judge today's kids when you don't know them. We are more screwed up than your generation will ever be. It's because of your generation that we are screwed up. You've chosen to neglect and punish and ignore your kids to the point where they don't have anybody to turn to. You think we had it easy? Excuse me, but speaking from personal experience, I NEVER had it easy. I was adopted as a baby, suffered from 8 knee surgeries (born with bad knees), had to give up sports for writing because of my damn knee problems, I have 3 mental illnesses, take 30 (yes 30) pills a day, have been overweight my entire life because of my knee problems and because of my genetics, and have suffered with an addiction to self injury for over 7 years. You think my life has been easy? I was bullied from 1st-7th grade. My entire body has been falling apart ever since I can remember. I've been to more doctors than most kids my age. I'm 22 years old and I've had to be a therapist for many of my friends because I've watched them suffer through abuse, neglect, watching their parents die, and watching their hearts get broken. I am going into being a therapist to help people because I understand what it's like to suffer. So before you judge those unlike you maybe you should take a walk (or in my case, a hobble) in their shoes before you decide who they are. mad grumble rant

Technology has advanced and we have so many conveniences now, but my Mom (whom is 78 yrs) is online with me and truly appreciates the fact that we can communicate online and can share a family plan by cell phone so we no longer have long distance charges.

Yep, I grew up with three television channels and Mom & Dad limited TV time by actually walking up to the television and turning it off as there were no remotes. We were disciplined and charged to actually pull our weight around the farm (of which I was raised).

I was a hell raiser and went out with my friends in high school. My punishment when I screwed up?....I had to pitch **** in the hog barn....and I learned quickly. Thank GOD for my parents! I wish more parents would step up to the plate these days!

my dad used to tell me that a sign of age was when you started b1tching about the kids, how easy they have it, how stupid they are, their music

and now I find that he was right

My parents were too busy b!ching about the younger generation...I had to figure this out for myself. Frankly, I LIKE most under-30's! The ones I know are smart, hardworking, respectful (as a reciprocal relationship...not an entitlement to someone based on age, title, etc) and are a lot of fun!

Every age group has idiots, spoiled people, and really great individuals... you get to choose which ones to surround yourself with.
