Topic: 7-Year-old Boy Dies in Trespass Shooting | |

None of that is solace to this family and the many others who have lost innocents to legal gun owners. There is no solace for this family. Nothing will bring back their son. What about all the families whose children were saved by guns. How will you feel when some innocent child is killed in an incident that could have been averted by a firearm? The accounts of that happening do not outweigh situations like this one by a long shot. There is no balance there. We selfishly cling to something which allows innocents to die at the hands of legal gun owners. There is no justification for it. There has been no empathy shown for the family and none of the so called rights will give this family or any family in this same situation solace. Produce for us statistics showing such a claim or it nothing more than personal belief. Your argument is no better than ours either way some innocent children must loose their lives. |

I don't think any one doesn't feel for the families loss....but it's no different than someone being killed because of someone's stupidity. This was because of someone's stupidity. Wasn't it? I'll have to look. Y'all sure have made a mess of this thread. |

Empathy is a great human quality. I wish I saw more of it. Going to watch my movie now. yes it is....but using a tragedy for an agenda isn't much empathy. i suspect had you not added the agenda tag to the end of the story....the responses would have been different until the anti-gun agenda was brought up |

zap...don't forget about those that have illegal guns...like gangs and others wanting to commit crimes. gun laws WON'T stop them from getting them Proud gun owner. Some of us enjoy shooting at the range and some prefer to park their wide glide on the couch and plant their face in a carton of ice cream. We all have our thing. |

Firearm Safety In America 2009
The number of privately owned guns in the U.S. is at an all-time high, and rises by about 4.5 million per year.1 Below, statistics from 1981 forward are from the National Center for Health Statistics; those prior to 1981 are from the National Safety Council.2 NCHS annual numbers, rates, and trends of common accidents and selected other causes of death, for the U.S., each state, and the District of Columbia, are available on the NRA-ILA website in spreadsheet format.3 The firearm accident death rate is at an all-time annual low, 0.2 per 100,000 population, down 94% since the all-time high in 1904. Since 1930, the annual number of such deaths has decreased 80%, to an all-time low, while the U.S. population has more than doubled and the number of firearms has quintupled. Among children, such deaths have decreased 90% since 1975. Today, the odds are more than a million to one, against a child in the U.S. dying in a firearm accident. Motor vehicle deaths Since 1980, the motor vehicle death rate for teens ages 15 to 19 has declined dramatically from 42 deaths per 100,000 in 1980 to 25 deaths per 100,000 in 1999, with the greatest reductions taking place during the early 1980s. (See Figure 1) Rates ranged between 25 to 28 per 100,000 from 1999 to 2003, then decreased to 25 per 100,000 in 2004. Guns = a million to one cars = 25 per 100,000 Should we ban cars also? |
