That's not what a UAW worker makes. It's what they call labor costs divided by hours of production. It includes retired workers pension payments, Health Insurance, disability, etc. The Big three have been in business longer than Toyota and therefore have more retired workers than the foreign Auto-makers. That's just here in America. In Japan they have a social health system and the companies dont provide health insurance or pension plans. Protective Tariffs!!!!!!!! |

The unions have had deals in place where a person who was laid off can draw a large portion of their salaries indefinitely while they look for another job. The UAW is a prime example of American greed at it's worst.

If they go overseas, I'm never buying another car from them. You did? You gave them money for failing to be the best? Then you're part of their problem. You have enabled them to become complicit and to forget about customer. They money (your's) were flowing to them whether they were doing the right thing or not! What are you talking about? You never did buy from them? Then you're not the problem. Technically isn't it all of our problems? We payed taxes. When the money got printed for this we paid for it through inflation tax. This means we helped fund this scam, thus, making it our problem. |

This would cause more harm than good i would think. What you do is close off any taxbreaks for outsourcing, then ease up on regulations locally. Hell, maybe even give taxbreaks to those willing to move back. We (the U.S.) have the highest corporate taxes in the world don't we? We also have the toughest regulations. Then we give taxbreaks to send jobs overseas. No wonder why they are moving... |

My ex girlfriend's father's brother make $60 / hr. She said he works on the assembly line and has huge seniority.
This is why they are moving jobs overseas. Otherwise, they cannot compete. |

What is a protective tariff? It is a tax, on those who live inside, but dares to purchase from outside.
Protective tariff says: "I hope you enjoy being a citizen, because now you no longer have a freedom of choice. You are to buy and use what you are told, not what you choose." A typical result of such tariffs, is that the people are now going overseas for shopping. It will make sense to go visit Berlin to buy the BMW there, and not getting stuck with a Chrysler here. When such becomes the normal, expected occurrence, then the next thing Nazis will do, is to prohibit Americans from bringing imported items home, without paying the "equalizing tariff" at the border, thus officially making US citizens a second grade human beings. How do I know? Every socialist country already went through that. The logic of tariff supporters is always the same: "We need to force our people to pay more for foreign goods. If we can not make our goods better and more attractive, then we will make foreign good worse and less attractive by forcing their prices up". That is an incorrect logic. One cannot make himself better by making others worse. Btw: Q: ---How does a tariff supporter gets a bigger house? A: ---He bulldozes down a part of a neighbor's house. |

No a protective tariff is a tax put on goods made elsewhere to make the price even and competition fair for the host countries manufacturers. It offsets things like cheap labor, no environmental laws, and no consumer safety and health laws. It enables Americans to maintain their living standard and keep their jobs. It makes for more consumer safety conscience and environmentally responsible corporations. It does nothing to eliminate Free Trade. In fact it creates true free trade. America used to do this! |

But then again, We have more corporate loop holes for them to jump out of paying taxes. We could lower corporate tax by supplementing it with the tariffs collected on Chinese Made products at the docks! |

Globalization!

Globalization! K Car! Jimmy "the waste" Carter! The Pacer, Pinto, Vega, etc. etc. etc. When you have no competition you get crap.Try this: build a better car than the Japanese are and more people will buy it. You can shovel the sh!t cars to the people but for now they have a choice and they are clearly choosing quality. What a concept. |
