Sluggo --
You raise a good point about conditions in Ruth's time -- he never had to face specialized relievers like Billy Wagner or Mariano Rivera. Back then, starters were left in a lot longer and I'm sure ol' Babe had a huge number of 3rd and 4th at bats in games against worn out starters, because opposing managers were more reluctant to bring in their relievers (who were usually just failed starters themselves). Babe didn't have to contend with night games, cross-country road trips, all kinds of stuff. And his only chemical enhancements were hot dogs and beer. Honestly, my problem with Barry has less to do with the steroids than it has to do with him being a jerk. If it was Sosa or Palmeiro approaching 755, I'd still see it as a "questionable" achievement, but I'd feel some justification in rooting for the guy. Barry just bugs me. And the idea of a guy like that holding what may be the most prominent, most well-known, record in sports, just irritates the hell out of me! But then, there's always Albert Pujols.... |
Albert has a shot if he can stay healthy and continues at his current
level. It'll be many years before we know though. |

Try to imagine if everyone in the media was tryin to get you to talk
about the crap that they're accusin you of, would you be happy to see them or talk to them?? I know for me, I'd have b*tch-slapped a couple of those reporters by now. I think he's doin what the golden rule says, if you're not gonna say somethin nice, tell those c*cksuckers Next question!! |
Albert Pujols was one of the first names implicated in Balco since he
use to train with them in College.... I hear what you're saying about Barry, but remember Ty Cobb was a serious prick too... |

i put barry bonds in same class as pete rose . and 1918 white soxs. u
would think a person with skills like barry would not have to cheat only reason he done just he is jealous. but if he was not such a jerk he would not have these problems. |

Comparing size of Bonds and Maris...?
Roger Maris Height: 6'0 Weight: 197 Barry Lamar Bonds Height: 6'2" Weight: 230 Divide those 33 pounds over 2" and it does not compute. |

Why all the HATIN on Barry??
You are the f*ckin man, Barry, do your thing man, no matter what the haters say, just brush em off. |
If Barry is not a 1st ballot Hall of Famer then I'm through with
baseball. |

Veronica, to see the answer to your question: compare todays Body
Builders to yesterdays Body Builders (In todays world of HGH, Arnold is tiny). Today's Drugs are just more powerful. Back in the day all drugs were derived from Testosterone (not the case in todays world). Sorry, todays athletes are just better with their chemicals: but don't blame Barry for something everone else is doing..... |

Babe had problems with substance abuse. He was a notorius drinker. Just
think if he hadnt drank how many home runs he might have hit.. |
Fanta, truth be told the Babe will always be the best (Period!):
In 1920 Ruth hit 54 Home Runs; the 2nd best George Sisler hit 19 (35 more HR's than anyone else that season). The Sultan of Swat (Ruth) started his 1st 5 seasons as a Pitcher (he ended up with a 94-46 won/loss record and still holds the record for the lowest ERA in World Series with a 0.87 ERA): Anyway, if Ruth wasn't piching those 5 seasons he would have had about 1,500 more At Bats (AB) and at his Average pace of a Home Run ever 11.76 AB's he should have had another 128 HR's (that's not even factoring in that those 5 years were PRIME years so he probably would have been higher than his "average" pace). Barry Bonds is Great, but he's not the Sultan of Swat.... |

Not Babe or Bonds are the best, the game ever produce, The Best is
Willie Mays, Period. Izzy |
i love barry.. hope he keep hitting them balls.. and laugh in yall face
Izzy I agree with you. Nobody played better than Willie Mays.

I loved Willie Mays growing up, The original Bash Brother (Mays &
McCovey) were my favorite players: But I have to give the edge to Ruth since he set records in Hitting & Pitching (vs Mays' incredible Fielding & Speed). If Mays didn't go into the Service and if Ruth never pitched they both would have been in the 800's with Home Runs...But lets face it, they were on a platoo alone. Although I think Bonds is stepping on the Platoo with them (not above them, just with them) |

Izzy & Bobbyblue (and the rest of you Willie Mays fans) check out the
Shadow Box I made for my house: It includes a 17" Autographed Picture of "The Catch", and Autographed Baseball, and four early Baseball cards (in order, 1957, 1955, 1959 & a 1958) in a hand made (by me) Shadow Box... When I get time I'm going to make another one with Mays & McCovy signed Bats & Ball and a few Cards from the 60's... |

Willie Mays and Roberto Clemente were in the last few years of their
careers when I started getting into baseball. But growing up around Pgh. and having the opportunity to see Clemente play -- I'd say he was better than Mays. But then I was just a kid. lol Also does anyone know what tape Hungary was referring to? (The Barry Bonds/Jim Leyland tape??) I'd like to know and her accts. deactivated. |
