My father and grandfather saw Sandy Koufax pitch a no-hitter against the
Mets in 1962. I was a young 12 year old that tag along.

I think Leland ripped on Barry after he left the team (he was never one
to hold back)...lol
I saw Roberto Clemente play a few times against the Dodgers, he was the
best Catcher I saw in a short period of time he played (could have
rivaled Johnny Bench if he played long enough)

I'm sorry Sluggo, you must be thinking of someone else. Roberto
Clemente played Right Field and played for about 20 years. Was killed
in Dec. of 71 or 72 (around Xmas time), while delivery supplies to
Nicuragua which had been hit by earthquake. His plane crashed into the
ocean.

Thanks to Wikipedia. Clemente played 18 seasons and was killed Dec. 31,
1972. Had 12 Golden Glove Awards.

Haha, this topic reminds me of the last baseball game I went to, which
was when my Padres beat the Giants sometimes during my spring break.

Barry went 0 for whatever that game, but everytime he came up, drunk
Giants fans would start chanting 'Barry, Barry.'

Then when he was easily retired by a simple fly ball, the rest of us
would start chanting the same thing. Never seen Giants fans so pissed
off before.

Haha, good times.

There are so many ifs. What if Mantle hadn't gotten hurt. What if Ted
Williams hadn't spent 5 of his peak years in the service. It's what
makes baseball such an interesting game.

I hear you GaMail: which is why I laugh at the whole "Asterik"
complaint. Any real baseball fan realizes most of the differences when
comparing the different time periods so that's where any Asterik
belongs. If someone is so dumb they need a physical asterik to inform
them; then do some studying

True Sluggo, the game from Ruth's time to Aaron's time to Bond's time is
really 3 different games. So its sorta apples to oranges. Baseball is a
numbers game though. I think one thing is for sure, if any of those 3
had played in a different time they would still have put up impressive
numbers.

I am not American but i follow baseball and the TO Blue Jays. When Barry
comes to Canada its exciting. If the guy has not been found guilty of
drug use (which i dont think he has yet, correct me if i am wrong
please), i think Bonds should be left alone...He is a great hitter...I
wouldnt say the best ever due to changes in the game but he is definetly
up there.

Nope, he hasn't been busted for drugs; but I think in todays day and age
I think everyone has done something anyway's...and thats been going on
for the past 25+ years.

The haven't even touched the tip of the iceberg yet on steroid use in
baseball, what Barry did was make it exciting for a while along with
Sammy Sosa and Mark Mc Guire.I am sure that there are more pitchers that
have done roids, the field was probably more level than you think. We will
find out in the near future,Giambi has to go before the commisioner, this
week on his comments. It is just ashame that the press spends too much
time on it.Think of the effect on kids ,what will they learn from all of
this publiciton the negative side?Lets get all of the facts before we
condemn anyone, and certainly lets not put them on trail on the airwaves.

What I'd like to know is if steriods weren't a factor, where did all the
50 - 60 hr's a year go?

Sluggo's photo

Not sure exactly what you meant there Summer? Maybe you could read what
you wrote and correct it?....
But last year had two players over 50 HR:
R Howard PHI 1B 58
D Ortiz BOS DH 54

But on a side note, Bonds hit his 1st Home Run since I started this damn
thread (lol...I thought he was going to leave me hanging)

Gee, here we are with an entire company-World Wrestling Entertainment-so hopped-up on steroids and Lord knows what else, commiting crimes ranging fron destroying hotel rooms(Randy Orton)to murdering his family(you know who). yet nothing's ever said, we all look the other way. Then you have Barry Bonds, who has not even been CHARGED with anything, and everyon's wanting to throw him out of baseball. I think when he breaks the record, it'd be a downright disgrace if Bud Selig and that racist Hank Aaron don't show up. I call Aaron a racist because, back in the early 90's, while working for the Turner organization, he got hold of an old interview thar WCW head Bill Watts had done in a wrestling newsletter. He raised such a fuss about comments Watts made till the company had no choice but to fire Watts. However, when black players such as Gary Sheffield made racist remarks, that was fine and dandy with 'ol Hank. For not being there and congratulating Bonds, he'll add "hypocrite" to the words used to describe him, along with "bitter old fool".
