I guess i will make this my one serious post of the night . To me commitment can be summed up with one simple word . TRUST . WHen you commit to someone you expose are your strengths faults and dreams to one person .You are handing someone your heart , and trusting them to hold it gently not to use it as a weapon against you .

Wow, that was deep. I liked it. drinker flowerforyou

laugh

I thought this was about that "one word" I let fly when I was 17 and my girlfriend at the time laid me out over my car with a right cross.

laugh flowerforyou Karen S., I still love you where ever your are and I've never let it fly again!

(and THAT'S a commitment)

Aw man, Beach! We had such a good thing going too...
come on, let's see you serious, just once.
What is one thing that real commitment would mean to you? And no messing around this time! laugh

Okay...I'll take a shot. See if I can find the right words here.

To be committed is to be engulfed to something or someone to the point where nothing, or almost nothing, would or could change that. It is to mean what you say and to do what you say. It means to hold this thing or person in such esteem as to be higher than yourself. We committ to a new job, by saying I'll take it, I'll be the best, do the best. To our kids, to love them always. To a relationship, to be in it til it's done. It means to pledge yourself to something and to be an active participant in carrying it out.

In a way Christina I answered you.

I really DO love Karen where ever she's at STILL. I realized the hurt in my words and feel I deserved the sock in the jaw. I value the lesson I learned, have forgiven her AND myself, and am STILL committed to Karen's spirit and soul. Even though we were young and things didn't work out...if reunited we would embrace with strength of warriors reunited in their village.

I guess I would say that committment is NOT seeing the beauty of those you love despite their faults (no matter what)

It is seeing the beauty IN their faults and not hiding your ownflowerforyou

I think many spew the word...commitment out of there mouths, but actions speak louder than words. You..."must" commitment with all you are, or the relationship is doomed to fail.

Very well said.

What does the word commitment look like or mean to you?

As long as it's never combined with the "M" word, I'm basically OK with it --

Or would be, if I could find someone commitable. OK, that didn't come out right....

commitment is forever. I don't take it lightly and would never say it unless I was prepared to mean it 5, 10, 50 years down the road (kinda explains why I have refrained from its use). And it's the greatest thing in the world; my ultimate goal. I hope I may reach it someday. If you truely love someone, commitment is easy. Extrapolation of that thought begins to explain why I'm so screwed up. My issues and peculiarities define me. lol

Then again, commitment can be applied to more than just love for another. Commitment to a person or a thought, is there really a difference? How can you be committed to a nother person if you can't be committed to yourself? I can be/am commited, for better or worse, to my beliefs, values, and morals. I have my opinions, it's caused me some pain, but I have to stand for what I believe is right. Life is hard. lol

As always, this is IMHO and YMMV...

i'll be honest, i fear commitment.

i hate signing up for a new cell phone contract.

the reason i fear it all so is not the being committed to one thing without the chance for variety. i fear not being able to live up to my end of the commitment. and in the case of being committed to another person, i fear that they may tire of me and want to end the commitment.
