I am not a total dunder head, but the last couple of day I feel like one. I have a college email address that I have been able to access before. Just in the last 2 days I cant for the life of me get it past the sign in area. I get a message that states that Explorer can not open the internet site. Operation Aborted. Then it shuts down. Now I have done a clean up, defrag and even tried to go around and open it from another site. Nada. When I am at school it opens just fine and dandy. So I know its my computer. But I am at a loss as to what to do next. ( for info: I dont usually mess with any thing in explorer. So I am at a total loss as what I can do.) Any help would be appreaciated. Thanks

justme - do you only have problems accessing your school's website? if so it could be the settings.

If you can get online download mozilla firefox - easier and faster than IE.

I havent even opened up IE in years. I've used Mozilla/Firefox exclusively

once in a while I'll go to a web site that isnt supported but it is rare

Ok, I will give it a try. I dont know that IE is running. But I guess it is. Thanks everyone.

stupid question 2: once I get firefox will it close out IE or will I have to do something technical myself? OR will the download do that for me?

You can have both browsers on your computer. You will get to choose which one is default. Whatever you pick as default will be the one to pop up when you need click on something from an email or another website.

Firefox has the icon that is like a big globe with fire around it. Choose that one, after you get it downloaded, to try to access your college mail.

Once you get used to it more, you can set it as default and put some add-ons on it that will block advertisements and scripting from sketchy websites. It's great for that! The add-ons take some time getting used to as you have to keep clickety clicking on stuff the first few days you use them. The add-ons I use are ad block plus and no script. There are a bunch of others as well.

It's a free download, just an alternate browser to use instead of internet explorer. There are others out there too, but firefox is the most widely used.

Once you get used to it, you are going to love not looking at all the ads and pop-ups!

Good Luck!

As Heather mentions above, you can have both browsers. I use Firefox almost exclusively. If you are going to keep IE. i would suggest an upgrade to IE version 8. This version is getting great reviews, with the addition of tabbed browsing. I would upgrade that first, i would also install Mozilla Firefox 3, this browser offers tabbed browsing, better security, and the ability to copy image locations at the click of the mouse. It is, imo, a better browser.

Some sites do not support Mozilla, so it's a good idea to have both.

Thanks Heather.

Most welcome my friend!

Mark, I'm glad you mentioned IE 8. I was still deciding whether or not to upgrade. I like other people to try it out first...haha.

It sounds like a microsoft update screwed something up in IE. It happens frequently.

I only use IE for msn games, since I can't get them to run in Firefox browser.

But Firefox is more stable and has some better features. Everyone I know runs firefox over IE.

Oh my god, there are people who actually run Internet Explorer? What is wrong with you?bigsmile bigsmile

How do you live without skins and add-ons? My Firefox has 1 additional skin (my favorite one), and about 50 - 40 add-ons. Without these add-ons, it will be just as useless as Internet Explorer, except it wouldn't be quite as useless. Even bare Firefox is about 50 times as useful as Micro$oft IE8.

I was wondering if you could have both. I recently installed firefox, haven't used it enough to know if I like it or not, have that and IE8

I have FireFox, IE 8, Google Chrome and the last one every body hates.. AOL 9.5. All work perfectly fine for me. Even though I use AOL the most, some times I jump on the others real quick.
