Topic: Obama: no prosecution for waterboarders | |
---|---|
WASHINGTON (AP) — The Obama administration on Thursday informed CIA officials who used waterboarding and other harsh interrogation tactics on terror suspects that they will not be prosecuted, senior administration officials told The Associated Press.
Even before President Barack Obama took office in January, aides signaled his administration was not likely to bring criminal charges against CIA employees for their roles in the secret, coercive terrorist interrogation program. It had been deemed legal at the time through opinions issued by the Justice Department under the Bush administration. But the statement being issued Thursday by Attorney General Eric Holder, the nation’s chief law enforcement officer, is the first definitive assurance that those CIA officials are in the clear, as long as their actions were in line with the legal advice at the time. |

This is more of a legal issue instead of someone's decision to tell who committed crime and who didn't.

i wonder why this administration won't prosecute

I thought this topic was about surfers.
Cuz it was legal then, made not legal? |

Get in line for your chance! BHO says CIA "water sports" are ok.... just another of his failures. Torture wasn't "in line" then or anytime because Bush had not legal right to deem it "nessessary and appropiate" to begin with!
It looks more and more like the is out of the box! |
|

i wonder why this administration won't prosecute Maybe its a deal to get them to testify against the real Criminals? The Bush Administration! |
|
|
|
or....uummm uummm uuummm...others might go down with the ship?
|
|
|
|
If Obama wants to protect the guilty parties, he must have a hand in there some where or did someone show him th' money?

Funny you didn't title your post, "Obama Releases Interrogation Memos"
haha I suggest you all read the memos. It's on my list to do. After a tense internal debate, President Obama officially announced this afternoon that his administration would not prosecute C.I.A. operatives for carrying out controversial interrogations of terrorist suspects, as the Justice Department began releasing a number of detailed memos describing harsh techniques used against Al Qaeda suspects in secret overseas prisons. “In releasing these memos, it is our intention to assure those who carrying out their duties relying in good faith upon the legal advice from the Department of Justice that they will not be subject to prosecution,” Mr. Obama said in a statement issued by the White House. They are available. Justice Department Memos on Interrogation Techniques * Original Document (PDF) http://documents.nytimes.com/justice-department-memos-on-interrogation-techniques#p=1 |

People you don't get priceless information from the worlds most dangerous terrorists by sitting them in a chair and asking them to tell the truth. If torturing those B*****ds keeps Americans from going up in a ball of flame then I say have a field day with them.If I ran those jails where those terrorist were going every guard in there would be female, and they would be kept in a dark hole for 23 hours a day.

Torture does not produce reliable intelligence.
For those who believe in torture...come on over and I will torture you into saying you bombed the WTC, that Obama is your personal hero and that unicorns exist. Humm I better stop...someone might be enjoying the thought. |

If we will stand on our principals of human dignity even to our captured enemies, then the "Creator" that our Founding Fathers believed in will stand with us. Let's be better than our enemies.

Many Americans call us a "Christian Nation". Jesus was tortured to death. So that seems rather hypocritical of us to torture captured enemies. Lets show the world that we are better than that. Then the "Creator" will stand with us (just as HE has done in the past)and that is all we will need.

if they have all of this evidence....then why not prosecute them? The CIA agents did what they were told was okay. Bush, Cheney, Rummy, Gonzales, and company are the ones who disregarded our constitution and twisted the laws. |
