I think that is funny...a sort of state wide split personality.

Almost as funny as the extreme sensitivity of texans any time anyone criticizes any thing about the state.

I knew the minute I posted my first on this thread there would be a bunch nipping at my heals. Didn't take long for the predictable response. Heck, I have even received threatening personal messages for posting articles critical of Texas.

i have no problem with giving texas my taxes....that way no one else would use it. but texans pay federal taxes as well and if we can try to make it on our own great....if not...we should get some back like everyone else does

Well, I have already put up with one rant from the broad who hates Texas and wants it to be given back to Mexico so, I just ignore that petty drivel and tripe.


I firmly believe that it is our duty as Texans to hold on to our right to secceed if it is warranted. Economically and financially speaking, we could indeed exist as an independant and soveriegn country. Hell, we could do that with nothing more than our oil reserves, refineries and shipping ports.

Why should they feel conflicted when they are sending the federal government more than their fair share, and why wouldn't they favor secession whey they support other states. Were not that far from them in that issue here in Ca.

The thing the thing that gets me...Texas has to sell its own oil out of state and then buy it back to refine it in our own refineries before we ship it out to prevent Texas having an unfair economical advantage over other states (and we damn sure would). Obviously, every state but Texas voted for that one....

As a California I already pay higher state taxes than most so not sure I want to go that route [laugh]

Really though I don't mind the federal taxes, though they are too high and too much gets wasted, I just don't like the idea of not receiving my fair share of benefits from those taxes.

Every state except maybe Alaska which faces a similar issues. Or maybe not, I'm not sure what their refinery capacities are.

Alaska was not yet a state at that point in history. They don't have refineries there man...that is what the Alaskan Pipeline it there for....to take the crude to shipping points to then be trucked and shipped to U.S refineries. Texas has 87% of the U.S oil refineries.

Hell, I understand why you guys might want to, but I don't want it to happen... California would be expected to pick up the slack and we just aren't in the position.

Actually I decided to check, Alaska has 6 refineries. No that many but a few and as you say they were not a state at the time that went through so it doesn't matter much.

Most states would be in that exact position bro...but, as a state we have kept our right to legally secced from the union at our discretion...to the best of my knowledge all the other states legally and willingly forfieted that right.

BUT it is written into the agreement that Texas (with a popular vote from the people) can split into five seperate states. That would be ten Senators and about a hundred extra Representatives. A very powerful voting bloc in the Legislature

I do believe you are correct on the forfeited rights. But no most states would NOT be in the same position as Ca. Like Tx we have been unfairly paid a greater percentage of the tax burden and now that we are looking for some extra help we're getting the finger. I wish we did have the right as those of you in Texas to.
