So when I am not thinking, do I exist?

We have a poetry forum but probably nobody goes there.

I am.......and at times, I think.....most times, I feel.

So does this mean if I can somehow stop thinking I can render myself invisible?

When I was a small child I would cover my eyes and look deep within the darkness I found there. Soon I would see stars and it would seem that I was actually out in space. During those times, I got the idea that I might be invisible.

I did an experiment where I did this and while I was seeing the stars I would ask my younger sister: "Can you still see me? Am I invisible?" Silly as it sounds. I thought I might be invisible because it seemed I was no longer in this world, but in the stars.

She would say: "Yes, I can still see you."

I don't agree, because in this train of thought, sociopaths, people without feeling, have no thoughts because they can't create feelings, and subsequently follow along in your pathway of things.

I AM...

therfore I am.

Because I am, I think.

Along these same lines, what if a mentally disabled person believes himself to Kilgore Trout? Does he cease to be who he really is to become who he mistakenly believes he is? What if two people believe themselves to both be the same person, which one gets to be who they believe they are?

I gather that most of you do NOT subscribe to the philosophy of reality. You exist because you can think and reason. You use that ability to make decisions rationally. This is the life philosophy of Ayn Rand - Objectivism. Has anyone here read any of her work? I am an Objectivist so the ability to think proves to me I exist. Reality is NOT changed simply because some nut case thinks they are George Washington - they aren't. They are just a nut case regardless of what is going on in their mind. You can think and still not be rational. It doesn't mean you don't exist just that you aren't dealing in reality. That can make for some screwed up personal and professional decisions that require you to untangle things or live with undesirable consequences. Thoughts, anyone?????

Are you saying that my disembodied ego willingly create my own feelings, and that the result of my actions are determined by the feelings itself? Feelings are nothing but involuntary impulses and I can't believe that that is what cause my actions. You are denying free will.
