Well, if you wait long enough, maybe everyone including you have had a few drinks! |

You're welcome. I thought I'd NEVER find a decent excuse!

Well, if you wait long enough, maybe everyone including you have had a few drinks! The speeches are after dinner, everyone will have had a few drinks by then. I have to be careful though. A drunk Best Man aint a good Best Man. I'll certainly have a couple or few drinks though. |

Seriously, just chill, my friend. Knowing you as well as I do, you'll be a smash. You'll do just fine.

My bestfriends wedding is 3 weeks away and I still have nothing EEEK! I feel your pain. Id start very soon if i were you! You'll be ok, you can get away with a fairly short speech, and, unless i am mistaken, you arent expected to make so many jokes. |

Like I said- just put in a bunch of "bollocks" and "blimey" in the speech and you'll be "bleepin' golden", as former-Illinois governor Rod Blagojevich says.
Just don't get tanked beforehand, as that's what'll ruin your plans in a most titanic way. |

Actually I think I AM expected to make some jokes, they would all die of shock if I did a straight speech. |

Somehow i dont think the audience would be won over by my Englishness! lol If i was to do a speech in the US, i could probably say anything and people would just enjoy the accent! |

Or hopefully, you will think of some actual good ones! |

That, and telling people here that you were David Tennant's stunt double on "Doctor Who" will probably illicit a series of yawns, too. |

The only thing I'm 100% sure of is including the word shenanigans into my speech at some point.

I just recently went to the loos here and gave my speech a run through, using just notes. Took me 7 and a half minutes. A minute longer than it was taking before, and i have omitted one of the paragraphs entirely as well. I felt like i was speaking pretty fast too, and didnt leave very long pauses where the laughs would(hopefully) be.
Now im worried its too long! |

Mine is going to have to be short and sweet, I'm not a fan of EVERYONE looking at me.

Well now i am stressing about it all more than ever before so far. The wedding is this Saturday coming, and i dont feel anywhere near ready yet. My back up plan, if all else failed, was to just read out the speech, word for word. But i gave the speech a proper run through(for the first time) last night in front of a friend, and realised that this is not an option. If i just read it out, i am not speaking, i am just reading out loud, it is not even close to making a speech. How i have written things, as above, is not how i would speak. I know i probably come across on here as a loud confident type. In reality, that is far from the truth. Im not quite shy or quiet either, but speaking in front of 150 people when i am expected to be funny and heartfelt, is completely out of my comfort zone. I have now bullet pointed the speech, and its ready to go onto prompt cards. The problem for me now is practicing it. I have tried to do it alone in front of a mirror, and it just doesnt feel right. I cant do it as i would in front of people. Im working tonight and tomorrow night, so my only chance to do it again in front of anyone will be on wednesday evening with the same friend as last night, and then on Thursday night in front of Lisa. Friday morning we travel up to where the wedding will be and its gonna be busy from the time we get there. I'll have to try find some time to run through it a couple of times, but its all become a bit last minute. My own fault i know, i had been given a years notice. As much of an honour it is, i hope none of my other friends ask me to be their Best Man. Relax. When you get up there and start talking, and start getting feedback, it will all just flow. Seriously. These people want to laugh, they want to have a good time and they will give you a large amount of leeway and positive feedback regardless. They expect you to be a bit nervous. When you're done you're going to wonder what it was you were so worried about. Your material is funny.... funnier than most. And you're a funny guy. It will come naturally when the time comes. |
