...that the vast majority of the time, a thread that might actually require some real thought to respond in has one of these three things happen to it?

1) It dies a quick death

2) The person making the OP is ridiculed or people that don't agree with the idea presented come in and basically ransack the thread

3) The thread gets turned into a mindless flirt fest where nothing actually gets said but a whole bunch of emoticons get used.

I have heard people say that they are " just here for fun ". If that's the case, there are thousands upon thousands of other forums out there on the web that could be used for that purpose.

I can totally understand people wanting to have fun on these forums. But why not put some actual thought into the threads that would seem to be begging for it?

But isn't there a point where people who say they want someone intelligent ( look at an awful lot of the profiles here and you'll see that word tossed about quite a bit ) actually express some intelligence in a thread that might require more than a two word answer or an emoticon???

I have seen this kind of thing happen time after time here. I can't help but wonder why that is.

Short attention spans?

Distracted easily?

Unable to scribble within the lines?

Because it appears that the higher intellects prefer witty banter, than squabble over who is the worst president in the universe?

Or which god has a bigger bible?

I'm thinking the first one might be pretty accurate....

I don't really see the point in complaining about how certain threads don't stick around. If you like one, put effort into keeping it going. It it goes away, it goes away.

It may just be that most of us just get on here to have a good time. I know I crack jokes and such when I probably shouldn't.
Alot of people are here to get away from real life and when something hit's a tender spot maybe they just want to make light of it.
Also I am sure a lot of people are just trying to be funny or quickwitted.
I for one will try to refrain myself.... especially on your threads.flowerforyou

I think that dating site forums are better used for fun than serious discussion. Id argue instead that there are actually much better sites to go to if intelligent discussion is what you are after.

From a dating point of view the fun people probably stand a better chance than the intelligent people.

What i would like to see is more people putting intelligence INTO their fun, or at least some creativity and imagination. Thats what i try to do anyway, if you can see past the nob jokes.

Ye gads. Here we go again.

Do I have to explain to everyone ( not you in particular ) again that when I post something like this I am NOT " complaining "??

I stated something that I have observed, and I wondered why it happened.

It's just that simple.

I have to disagree, Dan.

I would argue ( to use your phrase ) that fun is there to be had, but if all people are looking for here is to have fun, then they shouldn't bother to point out that they want to find someone who is intelligent.

What i would like to see is more people putting intelligence INTO their fun, or at least some creativity and imagination.

To this particular point.

That, indeed, would be good to see. And there are quite a few people here who manage it quite nicely.

In my opinion that happens because people basically want to operate on the surface. ohwell

I'm all for having fun, and I like the idea of injecting a little intelligence into thier fun, but once in a while it's nice to have a stimulating, adult conversation where people can exchange ideas and learn a little more about each other than just their sexual fetishes!

But yet. Nearly every time a thread like that comes up, one of the three things I mentioned happens in that thread.
