Well i lost my job on thurs and i am a nurse working an oncology office giving chemo. Higher in the senority but got fired by asking me for my key. No explanation, no meeting just a letter handed to me as they kicked me to the curb. Needless to say my world has come crushing down I am a damn good nurse. Anyhoo the real problem is my boyfriend isn't the most supportive he thinks i should want to go out and go do things its only 24 hours and my whole life has fallen down I'm i wrong or is he being selfish.

They didn't give you a reason? Surely there has to be sort of procedure they are required to follow.

did they give you your last check as for by law when they fire you they have to give you your check within 24hours

I lost my job last october I know how it feels & he's right you need to get out & do stuff to keep your mind busy, sitting around dwelling about it is no good!!

Doesn't sound supportive, you are right, but men handle things so much differently than women do (yes, I'm generalizing). Maybe he'll surprise you today with something nice.

I lost mine in January due to the economic downturn but being depressed about it doesn't solve anything ... so I just view it as a wonderful opportunity to do something different and to enjoy some creative time. I consciously choose the viewpoint that nothing goes wrong in my world....and it doesn't ... new avenues open, new directions emerge if I am willing to see ...

That would be considered 'laid off' due to economic restraint in Canada ... if you were 'fired' then there must be more to the story?

First of all when being laid off the last check will come as normal on payday. When being fired then yes they are suppose to receive their last check within a specific time. Ohh and how do I know this well I worked in the office only one there for 12 years and I dealt with anything from payroll to getting the jobs ready for the guys.

At times words can make a difference on what happen and what did not happen.

As far as being laid off and your world crumbling within 24 hours hard to do unless you choose to let it happen that way.

Do I even know where your coming from yeah I do I was laid off on March 16 and in the process of filing for unemployment. Have I let it get to me nope I figure during this time I'm going to take the time to do the things around my house that needs to be done. Such as minor repairs, painting ect..

It's up to you to look at the advantages that you may have at this time and not dwell on what could happen. Make the best of what has happened instead.

I think you need to give yourself some time to wrap your brain around this. Its not him losing the job its you.
