wouldn't you also be narrow minded...seeing as though you can't accept the way I was brought up...the way I think ?...that cuts both ways Boo Baby...

No one is saying you can't believe what you want, or can't go by the way you were brought up. I'm just wondering why it bothers you so much that people want to have the same rights. The same right to live their lives the way they want just as you get to do. No one is making you marry a gay man, have gay friends, go to gay weddings or anything of that nature. But does that mean they shouldn't be able to do that?

I have every belief that in time...it will be legal in all 50 states...although I'm quite sure...I may be long gone by then...or...not...

So why the heck should you care how long it takes, doesn't affect you does it? You might fit in other here at this site, where i am reading some really nasty thoughts from my fellow americans...

Press release: Iowa Supreme Court Rules in Marriage Case
http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/2221548/posts

Have to wonder if people would say some of this in public.

I'm just surprised that there are still people who want to marry, regardless of gay or not.

ahh

So when you were a child blissfully ignorant of reality playing and being cared for America was a good place?

Now that you are an adult with obligations who is unable to escape reality America is a bad place?

BINGO !!...

because it's about the behavior...I was raised a certain way...and...you were not...I'm not trying to change you...and...you're trying to change me...I am what I am...a good Catholic Italian boy...who believes that the behavior is wrong...so...then why would I want to sanction that behavior by making it legal...if left top a vote...I think most Americans would agree with me...as of right now...like I said before...in time gay marriage will be legal in all 50 states...these things take time...slowly but surely...before you know it...they be teaching that lifestyle in school...gulp !!...

Well I am encouraged by the courage of straights that speak up for gays today. I moved to a very redneck town and am blown away but the kindness I have been shown here. I was just told by a neighbor I rarely see that I am well loved in my neighborhood. I sensed that already but it was comforting to hear it said. Really gives me hope for the future of young people facing this issue. Childhood protects you in some ways but doesn't prepare for adulthood where you find out just how ugly people can be, if you are different.

Marriage may not be for everyone, but I would say that the main reason people get married is to show their love and commitment for one another, and it's less about legal issues.

Ahh...well at least we have gotten Gio to admit that he prefers to be ignorant and sheltered from reality.

exactly...let me live my sheltered...good Catholic Italian life as I want...ignorant...sheltered...and...happy...

No one is trying to change you. Gay people getting married is not going to change you. They're not forcing you to marry a gay man or attend gay weddings. It isn't changing your lifestyle.

..anyway..what's the big deal. Someone asked me what's my opinion on gay marriage.

It's like asking me to make a decision regarding about what should my neighbor eat for dinner? "Stake with mashed potatoes or a rice pudding with chocolate?

I really don't care, whatever the hell you are hungry for.

ok....gonna say this again....

IMHO i don't think the government should control who gets married (and yes it's a majority of the vote, i know) i lean more to the religious conservative side but i know the government needs to step out of things too.

now with that said....can someone explain to me (maybe it has been already and it went oer my big head lol) how did it get into a states constitution who marry who?

Actually I would like to know that myself, however we might get two different opinions depending on what side of the issue one is on. Don't know for sure, but still would like to see what is said.

They utilized the religious definition of marriage to define marriage when it became an issue. This was also done back when interracial marriage was legalized.

Are you saying they changed their constitution to read the way it is read now? Sorry, this whole constitution thing tends to confuse me.

I don't remember the main case name but it was a black man and white woman who wanted to get married. They tried to utilize the biblical reference to stop them from getting married but it was eventually overturned to mean that ANY man and woman could be married within age limits and mental capability.

This man -woman definition is what has stood until recently.

I never was taught this reference in the bible to black and white marriages. Interesting what they leave out in school.
