I was told American's do not drink enough water. They eat to much refined sugar. They eat to much salt. & They eat to much , red meat. ( Would you say you drink less, or more than 8 glasses of water per day??) What would you-all say about this information?? waving waving

Americans suck at following dietary laws.

I put salt on everything, eat fried foods, drink soda, tons of red meat...and I'm fit as a fiddle.

Don't believe the hype.
yA me too. Im a freak of nature. I should be dead really. I think that most of the diseases are hereditary anyways.

most people drink just enough water to barely be not dehydrated. whatever you drink per day you should probably double that

now me personally, having no kidneys and haven't peed in three days, I have to restrict my water

Yep, we drink the water here. I don't own salt. I eat fish a few times a week.

If my child doesn't get enough water, they get migraines. The neurologist said that people get headaches when they don't drink enough water.

I drink ton of water, eat more chicken than anything, yogurt, cranberry juice, and the only time I eat anything with too much sugar is when I am PMSing

Wasn't there research done proving that you don't really need 8 glasses a day? Did someone not actually die from drinking too much water?

It's kinda hard for me to believe that if you can get by on 4 or 5 glasses a day, you need as much as 8.

Plus, bottled water is bad for ya. Don't drink it.bigsmile

I retain water, so 8 glasses a day? Not a good idea.

I drink coffee in the AM and ice water the rest of the day and night so I would say I drink the required 8 glasses. I have done this for years now. I only have pop on a rare occasion and alcohol on an even rarer occasion. I like tea but it upsets my stomach most of the time so I can only drink green tea on occasion.

I think it is as good as I can expect considering that I drink from the tap. Who knows what may be in there...lol

The research showed that the 8 glasses of water didn't have to be just water. There could be a glass of juice and/or milk added in those 8 glasses.

Yes, someone died. You can die if you drink a very large quantity of water very quickly in one sitting.

When someone is thirsty, dehydration has already started, btw.

Decreasing your water intake isn't good if you retain water.

Just for your information, most people who retain water do so because they do not get enough water each day. If the body doesn't have enough water to flush the sodium and other toxins out of the body it causes retention.

the only water i drink is from the coffee i have. As much as everyone says "drink as much water as you can," it comes at a price. damned if you do, damned if you dont. even if you do, theres no telling what particles that get through filters and ultimately drunk.

You all drink enough water. Even those of you who say you don't. Read on:

HOW MUCH WATER DO YOU NEED?

Gabe Mirkin, M.D.

Do you believe that a person needs to drink eight glasses of water every day? If you do, you will spend a lot of time running to the bathroom.

Why do so many people believe this rule? The number originally came from the National Academy of Sciences of the United States Food and Nutrition Board, which publishes recommended daily allowances of nutrients. The 1945 edition of the Food and Nutrition Board recommended: "A suitable allowance of water for adults is 2.5 liters (about 8 cups) daily in most instances." This amount is based on the calculation of one milliliter of water for each calorie of food. HOWEVER, the Board also noted that most of the water you need is in the food you eat.

All foods contain water. Even the driest nut or seed has a lot of water in it. Furthermore, when food is digested, it is converted to energy, carbon dioxide and WATER. Most people can get the fluid the body needs from food, and they only need to drink enough water to prevent constipation.

Why would I want to ruin good whiskey by putting water in it?
