I believe in soul mates. But they are not always love interests. I think they are the people we connect to in life after life. The people we keep revolving around.

A few years back, I met someone who I felt like I had known a long time. He became my best friend very quickly. There was a short lived attempt at a relationship. There was a year as roommates. Then gone for good.

I feel I pushed too hard. I feel he couldn't figure out who he was or what he really wanted or where he was going.

My overwhelming feeling is that we both failed at whatever life lesson we were here to work on this time around. Now we are going to have to go through it all again another time around.

No one else has felt that kind of connection? No one else has wondered if they have failed part of the lesson they came here to learn?

I personally don't believe that we are here to learn very specific lessons. I think it's more like an experience. You learn what you learn each time around. No one is keeping track or saying, "Hey you should have been learning this or that!"

It's more like you just learn what you learn as you go. It's not like a computer game with specific levels. Or if there are levels you just move through them at your own pace. There's no need to worry about whether or not you got it 'right'. There's no right or wrong in that sense. But you do sow what you reap. That's the fundamental basis of karma.

It's not whether you've achieved specific goals, but how you've played the game.

At least that's my understanding of it. flowerforyou

does this have to do with Karma? i only know a little about it

I think we choose things we want to learn. So that we can grow.

There are some that wander through my world, that remind me of who I am... I remember me, through them.... soul mates? Connected, I suspect.... I recognise them...they smell like my kind, my herd...

from when, where, how , who cares?

The importance is they are here.

One the "soul mates" issue...

I happen to believe that we live multiple lives in series. And I also believe that we tend to "hang out together" across multiple lives. Not that we always have close relationsship with the same people over and over. But that the people we are closest to tend to be people that we've been close to before.

Anyway, I think a person can have multiple "soul mates" - people that one has been close to for a long, loooooong time.

What baffles me is why people think that a soul mate always has to be of the opposite sex? Is there some idea that we always incarnate as the same sex? To me that seems pretty superstitious.

The idea of a soul mate was that originally one soul was split into two souls, one was made a man and one was made a woman and they must find each other again to be "whole."

This idea is a symbolic one and reflects the necessity to have a male and female in the physical world in order to procreate the species here. Some people believe that they must find their "soul mate" to be happy.

A silly idea if you ask me. But if you believe that you met your soul mate and lost him then, you create a belief that there is no hope for happiness for you and by believing that, you create that reality for yourself.

It is our beliefs and our thoughts that create our reality.

I had a dog who was (and still is) my soul mate.
(Get your minds out of the gutter... no beastiality involved!)

He moved on from this world in '99.

I have never seen a pair of eyes look more deeply into my soul.

How are we intuitively guided? Don't we all experience from varying degrees a certain amount of intuition, knowing or wisdom that comes from within? What if this so-called god about which we constantly debate resides in each of us as if like a personal angel or higher self? What if the link between our everyday conscious thought and whole (Universal) understanding was a visceral pathway through the subconscious mind? What if we decided to call the place in each of us that holds the potential for complete connection to wisdom... "higher self"?

When one becomes completely opened to one's own greater or higher self, perhaps it's like finally being reunited with one's own soul mate. We hear how this happens just before death... Complete recognition, peace and understanding.

I agree. I think that's the ticket!drinker

My higher self lives many lives throughout time, and each of those lives are my soul mate. They are me. They could be you. bigsmile

As you go through life you meet hundreds and hundreds of people.

Every now and again you find that someone you have more in common with than all the others. And more rarely you find someone that you really really click with.

And thats just all it is, its a numbers game. But people like to ponce it up and call them 'soulmates'.

My personal belief is that the whole idea of a soulmate, has grown out of the need to answer the calling home of our own soul, or higher self, as you put it.

So with a bit of self-discovery who needs relationships?

Yeah, well... Relationships ultimately force us to either temporarily destoy ourselve's or help us more clearly understand the ones we have withourselves.
