Can we all try and keep a current following of each states news as to how many new employees have been let go and if their plant CLOSED or was just cutting back as to their lay offs..

I can't seem to find ANYWAY to track if when an employer lays off their workers, is it because the company has just cut some jobs or is it because the company has folded in some way..

If WE ALL knew the stats on THIS we would TRULY know how many jobs verses jobs available there is in each state..

I think WE have lost MANY COMPANIES,,,who will NEVER reopen,,,verses just laid off workers who await being recalled..

And NO ONE is TELLING US all those figures......just how many each state has drawing current unemployment.

So if WE knew that we would then know the truth as to how many JOBS have left that state....

Anyone who reads of many getting laid off,,,or a whole company closing near them....ALL THAT would help...

If you are interested in this you might want to look at changes made in how the unemployment numbers are compiled in the last umm twenty years.

By the way...we are our own best hope and advocates...but that's a different thread.

Obama's stimulus saved my job Iam.
For now anyway....drinker

They had laid-off 85 people and I was told one more month twice, but then the banks freed up some money and the orders went through.
They arent picking back up any who were laid off, but for now Im safe!

drinker Cool beans my friend,,,and I am really worried for us all through this mixed up economy.....
I have talked to a great deal of drivers all over and many have said that their company has laid off many who will NEVER be recalled...
And I know to many factories who have completely folded never to open again...so we are living a night mare if your one laid off now..
And these states refusing the help monies for unemployment are making a risky mistake if this goes to their states and work forces....

It's too hard to track all the companies laying off and hiring right now because the market is still so volatile. It'd have to be a monthly post at best but my guess would be to check the labor department monthly for stats.

I agree!
I have been dealing with guilt.
I was lucky. Many good employees were laid off while I was allowed to stay.
I have been told continuously by my bosses that my upcoming graduation was a major consideration.

I feel for my friends who lost their jobs.drinker

Iam4u,

I've tried to do search to see what it said for St. Louis. I come up with very little. Yet, I know that it's happening. The malls are becoming vacant. Little shops are closing around me. Circuit Cities are closing. We have car plants here and more.

The unemployment figures you hear from the government are 'massaged' to be less severe than they actually are, in the UK at least. Here the figures are based on the number of people claiming benefits, but not everyone who is unemployed is legible to claim them. Especially those just out of employment.

Recently my company laid off a load of people, and we were told not to broadcast to anyone any details about it. Im not sure how much information companies have to release to the public.

Also companies encourage other practices such as voluntary redundancy and can further hide the true cut they are making in their staffing levels.

unemployment in the US = everyone able to and actively looking for work. Those that are classified as discouraged and have stopped looking are not included. The actual rate in the US is suspected to be around 10% and if you count those underemployed (i.e. a computer programmer flipping burger because he can get no other job or someone that works part time but wishes to be full time) you get around 14% according to Merill Lynch.

Why don't we just count those who has a real high probability to be hired for even higher salaries within the same month that they were let go? This new approach will even strengthen our economy even more so than all the previous "adjustments" to the counting methods we had before. Imagine, with just a passage of an act, we can turn our whatever it happens to be now high unemployment number into a healthy, progressive 0.0001% !

Got to send this idea to Obama.
