Yep...that can't be fun making a chore out of a simple thing like going to the beach to cool off.
Shux...it's midnight with the temp still in the 30's...so sleeping in the pool is sounding pretty good to me right now. Oh shush John...i heard you think that you hope i drown. ![]() |

Shux..i'm just about to call it a night here. The mercury has dropped to a more breathable temp now, so there will be no thoughts of sleeping in the pool tonight. Tasmania had it pretty rough yesterday with bushfires raging out of control. One of the downsides to extreme hot weather over here.
I dunno though...the really bad bushfires only seem to happen in areas where the aboriginal people don't burn off. Wonder why that is. |

Those bushfires are still out of control and as many as 80 homes have been destroyed so far. Reminds me of Black Saturday in Victoria back in 2009. The mercury got up in the 40's that day, and i remember it well. Some 2000 homes were destroyed and many lives lost as well as countless animals. Just to give you an idea of the fierceness of that bushfire, which was considered as the perfect firestorm that destroyed over 400,000 hectares of regional Victorian Landscape. The fires burned so fiercly that the energy it produced was equivalent to 1500 atomic bombs the size of the Hiroshima explosion. It could have powered the State of Victoria for a year...according to experts anyhoo.
But out of the ashes as the saying goes....a rare species of eucalypt was reborn in the aftermath of that fire. It was on the brink of extinction...and now it is flourishing. Interesting to note how nature deals with stuff no? |

that's just horrible.. wow.. but yeah.. Mother Nature has her own way of takin care of business..
out in my area, we haven't had anything as devastating.. the most was last spring.. waters rose high enough to do lots of damages to homes etc.. they actually declared us a state of emergency and we had the military in to help.. I don't think many if any lives were lost.. but like I said.. there was LOTS of residential damage.. I was luckier than most with no damage at all.. but then again.. my home is placed slightly higher than many surrounding ones.. oh and, we have the occasional earthquake tremor.. but nothing scary like you guys.. |

Earthquake tremors are scary enough. I grew up in a place in New Zealand that is home to a geothermal wonderland of hissing geysers and bubbling mud pools, and is directly linked to an active volcanoe off the east coast of Enzed, so it became common place to experience tremors whilst growing up. Just a bit of trivia for you...one of the 7 natural wonders of the world was in the area i grew up in. Ever heard of the pink & white terraces?? It was apparently quite the attraction to early settlers before the nearby active volcanoe which is Mt Tarawera blew its top and buried them...along with a nearby village. Ummmm...i guess that only makes 6 natural wonders left now. But...geologists have uncovered an original part of the pink & white terraces...so they're making a comeback!! ![]() |
