Some of those disabled are not disabled at all. And some disabled are working. Whats with that.

Many times you cannot see a person's disability. There are people with heart problems and kidney problems and more. My father looks normal but he has severe COPD and can't walk far. He doesn't receive disability though because he's retired.

People on disability are severely looked over before they can receive it. You have to see the Soc. Sec. docs. and give them all of your medical records. At the end, they may even go in front of the judge.
then explain to me how my ex's uncle is on disability He hada nervous breakdown due to a divore.. He re married a few years later and subsequently divorced again.. and now runs a small strawberry field and stand during the summer.. yet he is and has been since around 1970 on ssi.. sure the system works real well... NOT and yet my sister who has polio in her arm and leg ( 62 yo) couldn't use her arm and walks with a limp couldn't get ssi at all? She still works till this day Fair system? yeah don't make meill
"Still Works" This is where she went wrong.

A few people slip through the system. They are the minority No system is without flaws. Did your sister not appeal?

now that you have seen billion dollar companies asking for government help and getting it...do the people on here who once thought paying for welfare and medicaid was bad have a change of heart?...just curious about the tax payers thoughts

The way the system is I have always felt if was a bad idea. I think that there are times when a person needs a helping hand to get back on their feet. I don't agree with the concept that is had become a way of life which it is has for so many.

Now are far as all these bailouts sorry I am so dead agianest them. No one has offered to bail me out of the money I lost when AIG took a nose dive. Sorry I would rather see us go straight into depression and get it over with since each day we hear of another mismanaged funds We the taxpayers are paying for.
I am sick to death of it all...

In theory I support the idea of helping people over some rough times. Unfortunately the system has morphed into a system that rewards those it was designed to help. Rather than holding people accountable for their action it is rewarding their inaction. And I am lean to the liberal side.

As for the bail out of companies. Again, it appears the money is going to reward those who put the companies in those situations then helping those who lost money in their investments.

What really gets me is the rationalization that some have used to justify the bonuses. "We have to reward the best and the brightest and keep them around." DUH!!! Aren't they the ones who played a significant role in creating the situation???

Okay will get off my soap box.

In this economy where are the "best and brightest" going to go anyway if they didn't get their bonus?

I did and was on SSD for about a year and a half. I am still disabled but I went and took only two college classes. Got out got a job less physical. Bought a 4 unit. And went from there.

That's fantastic. I do believe you may be luckier then some though. You somehow had the means to buy that 4-unit.
You might be smarter too.

Good question. Haven't heard anyone answer that one.

the thing i find so pathetic is people who are on meds or create their own disability and then want ssi its so disturbing to see people bust their ass to get by and then see others live off of them.....but gotta love the imperfect world we live in i guess

How does one "create their own disability"?
i'm fat,crazy,and a minority:smile:

Being a minority doesn't make a person disabled, silly.

It doesn't matter what color you are. It's about the doctors' diagnoses - both the personal doctor and the Soc.Sec. doctor.

I have some clients that honestly need the SSI checks they get. The couldn't hold down a job they have tried several times. They also live in housing, these people volunteer maybe an hour a day somewhere that is all they can handle and sometimes they can't even do that. So to these people yeah they need it. I don't have any pity for example of the person that lives off society as a parasite. I don't care if they are living off their family, or they have pickled their brains with booze and drugs so long that they now have done nothing with their lives and we pay for them I say no way....
