Now that gas prices have gone back down do you regret your decision? Do you think gas prices will go back up real soon?

Lost my job 13 months ago; cannot fined another; companies shutting down here in Yonkers daily; unemployment is over; IRA is almost gone. Don't know what I'll next -- apartment and car might be gone soon. Very scared.

My company outsources quite a bit. I wouldn't be surprised if they started doing even more to try and save a little money.

So they are outsourcing to prevent hiring new employees and having to train them and pay unemployment and benefits?

This kind of thing opens the opportunity for people who have a skill to start sub-contracting them self out to companies who do this.

A temporary employment business would be a good one to start or just set up your own sub contract business.

(Many people are working out of their homes. I don home health care and shopping for some elderly and disabled. I also do web design. I also sell artwork. I also serve legal papers.)

They're outsourcing to a company in another country where the wages are much, much less. It doesn't work quite like they wanted, though. There is a huge turnover in that company, so we are constantly re-training people. But, they're still doing it, as they're hoping in the long run it will save them a little bit of money.

That kind of thing is what is bad for our over all country. To save "a little bit" of money takes jobs from Americans.

This should be exposed as "un-American." in my opinion.

But that is also why politicians are trying to open our boarders and create a world market or a new world order.

It will be bad for a country living high on the hog like America, but it will help the third world countries.

It is bad as it does take jobs away from us. Some of my team has been laid off in the past because of it. While there are a few people on the outsourcing team that do a good job, most don't. It's unfortunate.

Oddly enough, the bottled water industry is still very strong. I was fortunate enough to have just earned a fat raise.

Its very sad..even at my age...have never seen anything like it..Nafta, oursourcing...Bad, Bad, Bad...And, its worse in some states, than others.
Me personally, not affected as of yet, and we were lucky to get another, 3 year contract, that will see me to retirement, from 1st job...after that. geez, who knows. Will keep my 2nd job, if I can keep up the working pace until then, have been for almost a year, with both jobs. Everyone is feeling the pinch...and yes, everything is more expensive..Good luck to all....

I live in a small town with lots of elderly. There is one lady who is a nurse who used to trim toenails for the elderly and she was so busy she had to slow it down as her hands could not handle the work.

She made $15.00 for each toe nail clipping and would come to your home.

Home health care will be a great way to keep employed. Ge trained as a nurse's aid for free at a lot of places and then work a while and then you can quit and go into business for yourself doing home visits, running errands, shopping etc.

Or you can get a live-in position with a person who does not want to go to a nursing home with pay plus room and board.

I'm in construction, you can figure it out from there.
amen

Make it three.

Make it four.

Funny how the number of unemployed indicated in various sources and said in the newspaper/TV. They only include those, who applied for unemployment benefits or worked for a large company. Every time you see the unemployment number, multiply it by 1.5 to get the real number, that includes the unreported ones, such as small business owners/self-employed.

Sadly, I think most people are feeling it at this point since it is really starting to sink in. I just recently became single again. I had taken a sabatical for about 7 months and getting back into to the workforce is a bit scary. My field is Senior Financial Analyst or loan officer. I don't think there are many of those needed at this time with buy rates and apr rates as high as they are. Last I heard, 40 million people are out of work today.
