Tax troubles arise for 2nd Obama Cabinet nominee

WASHINGTON (AP) — Another of President Barack Obama's Cabinet nominees has run into tax problems.

Daschle, the South Dakota Democrat chosen to lead Obama's health reform efforts, recently filed amended tax returns to report $128,203 in back taxes and $11,964 in interest, according to a Senate document obtained by The Associated Press.

Daschle filed amended tax returns for 2005, 2006 and 2007 to reflect additional income for consulting work, the use of a car service and reduced deductions for charitable contributions. He filed the returns after Obama announced he intended to nominate Daschle to head the Health and Human Services Department.

Most of the additional taxes resulted from unreported income from the use of a car service provided him by a close friend and business associate, Leo Hindery Jr. The unreported income for that service totaled more than $250,000 over three years.

Daschle also had unreported consulting income of $88,333, in 2007. He also had reductions to charitable contributions totaling about $15,000 over the three years covered, according to the Senate Finance Committee document.

And if that's not bad enough, Daschle may have to have an exemption from Obama's new lobbying rules too.

I just keep thinking to myself, "4 years of Carter brought 8 years of Reagan." I'm hoping that this happens again. Obama has already done so many things that are wrong.

I'm sure you weren't saying the same thing when Bush took office..since the dems tried to steal the election in Florida they have been at his throat...and in eleven days time, he as embarrassed the American people, apoligizing to the Muslums, going against his promise to do things in Washington different then they have before and then hiring all the crooked people from the Clinton administration....Some change, then hires people that cheat on their taxes, when those same people would have gotten fire immediately by the organizations they control..and hired those demons...those lobbyists which he promised he would be free of....if we work now, maybe we can stop him before he turns us into another France or Soviet country..Trillions of debt...if Iraq was so expensive and a waste of money like they claim...Obama is pouring trillions of dollars down the drain and it will only hurt average Americans the most..your children and your childrens children...give him a chance??? I did say the same when Bush was in office the first time and I didn't even vote for him. The second time he made it into office was a whole other story.

Palestinians celebrated Obama's win by killing Israelis. Our nation is mostly favored towards Israelis...except for Obama. Plus, my best friend is an Israeli, and two of her family members died in part of the Obama win celebration. You can guess that he did nothing about it.

Im from Florida and not a democrat or republican but the dems didnt try and steal ****. If you followed the whole fiasco in Florida you would know. They were recounts that should have happened but didn't. I blame the dems as much as the repubs for that. The whole "Hanging chad" was all one side for Bush, they were absentee votes that were not counted at all to the sum of 6500...

As far as Obama and this whole stimulus deal...It is not going to work but you never mention the fact that GWB put all this into motion including the bailouts. So if Obama fails he will have failed no worse than the Almighty Bush Administration!!!!! How far in debt were we when Obama took office????????????????????

Maybe Obama will nominate all our Senators and Congressman for something important -from the looks of things with Geitner and now Daschle that's the only way that we will get their taxes paid correctly.
