I don't normally post in the religious forums but for some reason tonight I felt compelled to do so. I don't post but I do read the forums under religion.

I would like to know why it seems everyone that posts here has no tolerance of any kind for any religion other than their own? Their religion is the only true religion and they will argue to the death it seems. Is there no religion out there that teaches tolerance and acceptance of others? Is there no possibility to have healthy debate without resorting to the "follow my religion or you go to hell" routine?

Personally I find it childish to sit and fight about who's God is the right God. You don't have to agree with someone to respect their religious views. Everyone has the right to believe the way in which they want. I believe it would be a wonderful thing if there was actually a positive religious thread. One that was completely free of the rhetoric and negativity.

There have been a few nice threads on the Religious section. And yes, it is true that people take offense that their God is not accepted. My God is real and yours is not. Then there are fights about scriptures and who is right. I tell ya, to be called a religious person sure shows the opposite. Shame.

In a nutshell - Christian Proselytizing.

The United Nations has actually been considering making the proselytizing of religions globally illegal because fo the political unrest and violence it creates. I hope they continue to consider that.

"Self righteous" and "holier-than-thou" comes to mind. But, yeah...I hear ya. I don't judge or condemn anyone who wants to believe in a certain religion, and I don't believe anyone else should.

I certainly don't AGREE with a lot of religions, but I don't feel the need to fight with anyone about it.

I think it's due to so many religions claiming to be the one true one, one true God, only God, etc etc. When you believe this and you hear someone else say something different, true believers feel compelled to argue to the death over it.
I for one, don't care what someone else's religion is. I respect what they believe is right for them. However, I tend to get ticked when they start after me on how wrong I am because I don't believe the same as them.

..just like the person that recently turns vegetarianism..they aint much fun to be around at a steak dinner with friends...i think intolerance has less to do with religion and more to do with the person..some people are just more dogminded than others..

AMEN TO YOUR WORDS OF WISDOME! I think God would be smiling if he would see all religions joining hands and celebrating him as the one true savior and not condeming others or their beliefs! ( but reflecting HIm with their lives)
They are just uneducated and those who point fingers and put down others beliefs (wrong or right religion) will also someday be judged.
We will all bow the knee someday ... and we are all forgivin.. Thank God!

I will admitt I am guilty as charged at least today for sure. I let anger get to me which is dead wrong. I apologize to all and anyone I may have offended or myself showing bad stewardship. I am sorry. May Yahweh Bless His Children and Help Me Be Peaceful....Miles

People religious and non-religious point finger at each other.
Believer's and unbelievers the same.
It's endless. There will be no end to this unfortunaltely everybody's ego get in the way and they take offense to any disagreement.
The world is made up of many different people and backgrounds and faiths we just need to learn to show love and respect for one another.flowerforyou flowerforyou flowerforyou

Growing up my Mom allowed me to form my own religious views. I was allowed to attend churches of different faiths with my friends and was never pushed by her to take on one specific religion as my own. I believe because of that upbringing I'm very tolerant of others where religion is concerned. I respect other's views and will listen to what they have to say until it gets to the point of being pushed down my throat or telling me that their religion is the only way to go.

Let's all be honest with one another. No one trully knows who's religion is the right one. No one trully knows what waits for us after human death. Let's learn patience and tolerance for one another now while we can before it bites us in the preverbial behind in whatever afterlife we have in store for us.flowerforyou

Well according to the bible, god would not be smiling at all to see all of the world's religions holding hands and getting along. This is because Christianity makes as many claims of exclusivity as any other monotheistic religion. Jews don't believe that Christ was the savior and Muslims don't believe that Jesus was god. The bible makes clear (in verse, after verse, after verse) that false religions (and prophets) would come to led people into error. If you believe that god would accept such a proposal, do you have any biblical verses to back up such a claim? I am really curious because while I think it would be a great thing indeed if people would stop killing each other in the name of dogma (or for reasons that include the lack thereof) I don't see how this is something supported by even a liberal view of Christian doctrine.

It's not supported by the Bible, and neither is it supported by most Christian organizations.

In fact, if they did support it they would quit proselyzing.

The very idea that people need a 'savior' and need to be forgiven is already proselyting.

Unless they can agree that Moon Goddesses and the Great Wanka Tanka, and even Aphrodites qualify as 'saviors' and forgivers.

I personally have a crush on Aphrodites. smooched

I think she's a wonderful God. drinker

All religions cant possibly be true. THey may all be wrong, but they cant all possibly be true. It violates a law of logic called the law of non contradiction.

It's interesting Nubby, that you can say all religions can't possibly be right with a straigt face, and yet you assume your's IS.

So it seems Reddbeans, it's not possible to hold hands as long as christians see their religion as the one true religion.

Nubby here will fight to the last second for something that can't be proven.

We can agree to disagree. Truth is by definition non contradictory. That is why Jesus was making a very fair statement when He said I am the way, the truth, and the life.

I'm not sayin let's all be happy happy hari kirshna hippy holdin hands tolerant. But let's discuss one another's beliefs without attackin. Respect someone else's beliefs enough that you don't tell them "YOU'RE HEADED STRAIGHT TO HELL" for believin what they feel in their heart is the right belief system. No on has the right to tell someone else what they believe is wrong. No one has the right to say to someone else that they are goin to hell, hades, or wherever for their beliefs. No one has the right to force feed their beliefs onto someone else.

I've learned about other religions by asking questions and having discussions. Why can't we all do this? I've formed my own opinions and beliefs from doing this. I would be more than happy to discuss them with others. I think we should all be more open to discussion and less attack. drinker
