As a "non American" I have always admired the bridging of the "Great Divide" in the USA. Your country leads the way in "giving credit where credit is due" e.g, I am speaking in terms of promoting those who are capable of and those who deserve to be promoted. Can you in your wildest dreams see a Black, Asian,Chinese or other "race" prime minister, mayor, Lord Chief Justice in the UK this side of this century? Me neither........ Seems America leads the field in "If the person is right for the job, then by all means allow that person to get on with it" Britain unfortunately is still very much steeped in the "Old Boy/Old Tie Network" it isn't a case of getting a job in higher places because of your achievements, it is a case of being born into the right family/circle and of course having that old "silver spoon" firmly rooted in your mouth!.......... Note to Gordon Brown and other political doyens, watch and learn.

Thank you BonnyMiss and, how are you?....I hope all is better for you !!!!!!

Its amazing to me, that the best man would not be able to take the reigns in the UK. Every Brit I speak to puts forth an intelligent conversation. I am truely dismayed that the UK would not be more forward thinking.

I'm with you on that. However, I believe the terrorists knew they were going down. It was what they were taught.
And I wouldn't have wanted to be in the presidential seat during these times either. However, I also believe Bush's bad judgment reared it's ugly head time and time again. Not only about the war we started with Iraq, but also with many many other issues.
Although I think Bush was a strong president, I think he was also a bad one.

I also believe that Obama will have to show his strength in his presidency. The problems endured for him to take care of will force him to "put his money where is mouth is" so to speak.

Look I am not against Obama, he has my support, but who's to say he didnt make bad decisions with the information provided to him. I believe he was lead in certain directions by others. The president runs the country through delegation, but he is the one in the public eye that gets the SH!T!! I am not saying I agree with everything either, just that it was a very difficult time and if any American thinks they could have done a better job with the information he had, then by all means throw your hat in the ring. I have faith in Obama too, lets just not knock the old administration for doing what it thought was best with the information it had at hand!! I am glad we want the best man for the job.
And Amen, BonnyMiss, BTW You are beautiful and have beautiful eyes!!

Thank you........Blushing aside, I normally run a mile from the religion and political threads, but I am enjoying this thread.

Sea...I've been stating over and over and over again...Article 1 Section 8 of the Constitution...The Congress shall have the power to collect taxes...

The Congress shall have the power to declare war...until I'm blue in the face...which in my case...is an improvement...to no avail...frustrated

As a non American, and not really into politics, I am nonetheless of the belief that a leader should be judged on his achievements rather than his/her promises.
Let's just wait a year or two and see just how much Obama achieves.
Once the 'Honeymoon' period is over and expectations are realized/dashed, make a judgement then.

You've heard of the saying "come stay with me and come live with me are not the same" Well, to most outsiders all seems well, but to those who live here the story is different. I speak first hand when I say this, time and time again I have spoken to agencies or employers on the phone, I give my name, then turn up, only to be given a look of disbelief, or the classic "You cannot be" laugh My maiden name is a typical Scottish surname, my speech is very clipped, very British, plum-in-the-mouth accent, I have had countless hours of fun when a random White person (White guys especially, no, I am not being racist here) sidle up to me and open up a conversation in a fake Jamaican accent, and I respond............ rofl rofl rofl

A promise is comfort to a fool

America has four years to watch their new president either falter or grow, time will tell. I do feel there is too much hope pinned on the new president, but it is good to see hope for a brighter future restored.

I think first and foremost it is my gender, then race and the old adage " brains and beauty do not go together" ( I was actually told this, so no, I am not bragging) what's a girl to do? Promotion goes over my head to those who have less qualifications than I have, I did not get as far as I could in the building trade,( a mans' world) and did not for one moment like the suggestion made a careers advisor....... "Why don't you go into the nursing profession, Black women make superb nurses" little does she know, I am terrified of needles laugh laugh Do you think America is ready for me ? laugh

I wont judge Obama anymore than I would the Previous leaders, I would have to walk a mile in their shoes first and do what they do to make that kind of judgement.

Personally I don't believe we were on the wrong track. I just think we had more to deal with, and maybe not all of it was dealt with in a fashion we agree with or had the results we wanted. Who is to say if someone else was leading the country at the time we wouldn't have had the same result. Lets just hope we do not have to deal with the issues of the past in the future.

You don't believe that Bush's actions along with his daddy were the result of why America is in the situation we are in?

I think Clinton had just as big a hand in things as G.W. did. I think both were more damaging that Bush senior although he had his parts. Better publicists were in control of the Clinton administration.

We see this happening against with Obama as well. Forgive me for being skeptical but when he began to rehire memebers from Bush's and Clinton's administration it made me doubtful that we will endure any progress.

Unfortunately our politicians haven't been running the "economy" since the early 1900's. And there are issues with our fiat currency that need to be dealt within order to have stable economy. Let me put it this way... one of the last things President JFK did was sign executive order 11110 which bypassed our central bank and put the government in charge of our currency again. Funny how the we still use the federal reserve and our government pays interest on evry dollar it prints huh?

Anyways, i know this was directed at non-americans so in the spirit of the post i will comment on my foreign friends.

I have a friend from the country of Poland. I found out she worked for various political parties in her country that were campaigning. She, and her family both thought us as being foolish for voting Obama in due to his experience level. Honestly they thought McCain was the smarter choice out of the two. The media shows support that Obama is getting because partly because they are payed to, and partly because they are just happy to see a "minority" in power.

Most of the world, to include our country, i truely believe know almost nothing about Obama's intentions. Some do, some don't.

On a side note Becca, i read your article describing his first day in office. This made me feel a bit refreshed to think he was working to smother lobbyists. (I heard him speaking our against lobbyism before.) This will help us in the long run. Unfortunately i don't see him changing our foreign policy at all, nor do i see him seeking any solutions to our economic problems as the banks pretty much run that show, and they don't allow congress to know what they talk about in their meetings.
