Topic: Italian city bans "no god" ads | |

ROME (Reuters) – Italian atheists have lost a bid to run "no God" advertisements on city buses after strong opposition from conservative political parties, a member of the group said on Saturday.
The ads reading "The bad news is that God doesn't exist. The good news is that you don't need him" were to have been put on buses in the northern city of Genoa, home to the Catholic cardinal who is head of the Italian Bishops Conference. The mock-up was ready and the contract was sent to the group for signing but the publicity agency changed its mind and said the ad could not run it because it violated an ethics in advertising code, according to Giorgio Villella of The Italian Union of Atheists and Rationalist Agnostics (UAAR). "Right-wing politicians criticized us ferociously," Villella said by telephone from the group's base, adding that at least one bus driver in Genoa said he would refuse to drive a "no God" bus. "It's strange that in a country where ads depicting near-naked women wearing skimpy lingerie is permitted on buses that we can't run ads about atheism," Villella said. Villella said the group's lawyers would likely file an appeal to a court to overturn the decision and that the group would try to run the ads in other Italian cities. Atheists in Barcelona, London and Washington have already run "no God" ads on city buses. http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20090117/od_uk_nm/oukoe_uk_italy_atheists;_ylt=AgRK8cOpH4fKGEhDypplQ8HtiBIF |

Yeah, it doesn't surprise me there at all. But I just wonder when the world will be open to EVERYONE?. When businesses aren't scared of losing business and they stop being ruled by conservatives. It's already happening, people are getting tired of the religious right dictating what is and isn't.. |

This is more hate from people who are on the verge of destruction & helping to take the rest of us down with them.
I call it new age bigotry. |

It will probably not all happen in my lifetime, but I really hope that it does one day. |

Common sense has prevailed once again.I would like to put this on the buses.
Atheism... The belief that there was nothing and nothing happened to nothing and nothing magically exploded for no reason creating everything and then a bunch of everything magically rearranged itself for no reason what so ever into self replicating bits which then turned into dinosaurs Makes perfect sense. |

Yeah and it makes perfect sense that some entity was just floating around thinking of things to do cause it was bored and decided to make the universe. Yeah sounds really logical. |

I just stopped in to see what was up, didn't intend to post but when I got to the last post from hellkitten, the add at bottom was: "The God That Wasn't There" Irrevently Lays out the case that Jesus Christ never existed. the godmovie.com. Do you think that was placed there on purpose???? |

There are many flaws with that statement. 1.Atheist don't believe that "Something happened from Nothing" 2.Atheist don't believe anything "magically" happened. 3. The Theory of Evolution(the best scientific explanation there is) doesn't state that "for no reason" we evolved. |

Do you think that was placed there on purpose???? Ads appear according to the words that are contained in the threads. Just like google click adds, the content of the page, determines the adds that appear in the google click ads. I once mentioned pigs on my home page for my town and the google click adds were about pigs. I believe the ads that appear here, are influenced by the title of the thread mostly. |

Speaking of dinosaurs. Once again you prove how much you know about atheism. |

It's so funny.
The fact that a group of people say God does not exist, does not mean he actually does not exist. I mean they can spend as much money as they want in worthless publicity, however, regardless the fact they believe in God or not, they must have some sort of humanity, why don't they better invest the money in publicity in organizations which fight poberty or cancer, which is better than saying a nonsense such as God does not exist. Actually, God does not exist for the individual who has lost hope in a better world. God does not exist for the one who has hate in his/her heart. There are two classes of atheists, those who simply are atheists, and they let others live (those are worthy people). The we have those atheists who live their lifes fighting an already lost battle (those are unworthy atheists) TLW |

It is silly to spend millions of dollars on church buildings when that money could be used for building homes for the homeless or shelters. |

The power and influence of the Vatican City has stopped these ads. In time this may change though as much of Europe is in a transformation as we speak.

LOL!! Xianity- the belief some guy in beard lives in the clouds holds you by the flimsiest of threads over an endlessly burning pit of torture and if you do anything to piss him off, he will drop you into it. If you are gay, he'll create AIDS; he wants you to love him back and will destroy you if you don't. Plus if you give his followers a $1000 seed faith offering he will heal you of your pain and magically get you $30,000 back. LOL |
