There is a fine line between genius and insanity.

Humankind in general.... the entire westernised societies...

Strange thing...

You are actually west of me if I face the right way...

Earth being a globe and all.

Yep and I am mad... every time I participate in the madness of society, I am in an induced state of madness...

I would never assume to be 'above' others.... I am part of the all... and in this instance, part of the insanity.

I think there is a great deal of human behavior that when taken to extremes is certainly insane. Extreme sports hello!? I still love watching them, but its insane no doubt!

We have very interesting colloquialisms about insanity don't we?!

I love the responses in this thread!  drinks

If we want to get to the not fun forms of the word insanity then I would have to say the phrase "a danger to oneself and others", and the idea of telling right from wrong, or cognizance of responsibility regardless of acceptance tend to stick out to me as big characteristics.

I would have to say many mental disorders can cause an instability that generates these kinds of behaviors.

What is insanity to you?

Acting contrary to one's own survival.

What is insanity?

lets see where to start on that one....

1. Doing something constantly over and over and hoping to get a different result.

2. Believing that you know something when the knowledge is in its own state subjective.

3. Trying to convince others that something they believe is fundamentally flawed.

4. Conforming to social/political norms and thinking that it is in everybody's best interest to do so.

5. Judging others on how you perceive their actions make you appear.

6. Thinking your entitled to something.

7. Thinking that you or a organized group of individuals to whom you belong are the only ones who are right.

8. Ignoring problems, crisis, or dilemmas in the delusional hope that they will go away or not get worse.

9. Shirking responsibilty on to others with things go wrong and trying to take credit when things go according to plan.

10. Trying to explain or define what can not be explained or defined.

11. Thinking you are sane when you have not yet lost your sanity to know the difference.

Those are just few examples i can thingk of.....

Insanity.....

the whole 'me' 'gimme gimme' mindset...
the whole completely capable of comprehending one's own demise, and doing it anyway....ie drug taking, drink driving....

societies that insatiably consume natural resources until completely dependent on them, whilst fully aware they are a finite amount...

The bombardment of media...

the ever flipping societal standards of behaviour...

Political correctness.

living in a giant house... with one or no kids.... and no yeard.... owning more than one car... you can only drive one at a time...

Packing elderly and infirm into warehouses of death...

detached from birth and death...everything clinical and desensitised...

geeeez!!

I could go on and on and on and on............
noway laugh

I would know....I happen to currently live in one of those "warehouses of death." Eventually you realize that sanity is highly overrated. When you get down to it best any of us can do is make a go of it ( life that is) and then laugh about it in the end. Best i can figure anyways... spock

technically anything you do out of the "norm" could be consdiered insanity......"for those of you dont know the norm is what society dictates and the norm changes as society does"

So tell me what is insane and what is norm but then again it changes

in 1600 was having pre marital sex insane and what about now??
