Topic: need help with scary movies. | |

Alright, so my family and I are really corny at times and actually have movie nights. We generally go for the horror films. They sometimes pick out the predictable slasher films or the i'm-a-ghost-i'm-going-to-haunt-you-because-i-was-wronged type movies. I'm bored of those, so I wanna pick out a really GOOD horror film, like one that'll make anybody jump.
Any ideas? :) |

The Mist is a good one!!

One that has a twist...like a surprise ending. A movie that takes it too far but is still good. dunno if that helps, FilmFreek :/

Silent Hill is pretty scary...that's my opinion. If you find any movies from the Horror Fest (there should be 24 in total), you should check those movies out too.

Army of Darkness!
Army of Darkness II! Evil Dead! You actually can get away with watching Evil Dead II followed by Army of Darkness! Evil Dead II picks up after the Evil Dead movie but only loosely. There are small departures from the original movie but they tried to keep the original flavor. They are cult classics for a reason! Army of Darkness is the sequel to Evil Dead II. For some real cheesy horror I recommend Cannibal the Musical by Matt Stone and Trey Parker. it is a musical. |

There is also Alien. The first movie was great!

One that has a twist...like a surprise ending. A movie that takes it too far but is still good. dunno if that helps, FilmFreek :/ The first one that comes to mind is a french film called High Tension. It is very graphic though, so I'm not sure if it would be a good film to watch with the family. Here are a few more... For me the sci-fi element in horror (or fear of the unknown) is a bit more creepy. Here are some good sci-fi horror films that scared me. Alien (the first one) Altered Dagon John Carpenter's The Thing Event Horizon The Forgotten (I jumped a few times in this....make sure you have the sound turned up loud) ---------------------------------------------- And a few more random titles.... An American Werewolf In London (classic) Dead End Feast Final Destination 1 & 2 Jeepers Creepers 1 & 2 The Serpent & The Rainbow Diary Of The Dead Suspira (old creepy Italian film) |

Okay, if we have horror movie folks checking in here maybe someone can help me with a movie I have been looking for for years.
Scared the hell out of me when I saw it in the maybe mid 70's but if I recall it was an older movie although it was in color. It started out like so many scary films do. A group of teens driving in the country, the car breaks down and they find themselves outside a small town. There they are met by a man *insert scary stuff here* At some point the man has a young girl strapped to a table and begins encasing her in a mold. Seems he has made mannequins of the lost travelers he has murdered and filled the town with them. It also seems like the deranged man was a tv series or maybe a western movie star. Anyone have any thoughts? I'd love to find the movie just to see if it scares me still. |

Sublime is a trippy movie with a twist to it... A lot of graphic scenes... just a warning as don't know the ages of all your family members...

All the Saw movies made me jump. I haven't seen Saw V though. Then there's the classic, The Lady in White.

Thanks Filmfreek I will check those movies out.
You know, I really like scary but not so much gory. I think our capacity for shock in this day and age is lessened. For me what's scarier is harder to capture. It's more subtle. There's a scene in The Shining where Jack is sitting at the empty bar. He looks down and says something about selling his soul to the devil for a drink...TADA That scene scared me badly. |

when I first read this the first girl who was looking for a movie with a twist I thought of high tension too. But it is very graphic so if there's anyone under 14 I dont suggest it. A good scary movie not so much horror is gothika. Very good plot and there is a little bit of a twist. shutter was a pretty good movie if you havent seen it I would watch it. I thought it would really suck and it didnt. The ring was good. And the best slasher flick of all time is scream. Because it actually states the basis for all scary movies.lol I enjoyed urban legends. but just some ideas
