I personally enjoy acceptance to a certain degree and that is really the only way to make friends or get to know someone. They need to accept you enough to allow you access to them on a more intimate level. However I’m also a very "take it or leave it person" in that respect.

I used to say something to this effect all the time, privately. I realise now it is not just about self-esteem. It is also about the fear of being truly "known" by another. Perhaps a fear of loss, abandonment, or rejection. ....Probably why I have feared emotional intimacy in the past and have always chosen emotionally unavailable men. Awareness is the first step in making positive change.

we all have a need to be wanted. whether or not we are accepted is an individual thing.
