WASHINGTON – AirTran Airlines says nine Muslim passengers were removed from a flight from Washington, D.C., to Florida after other passengers reported hearing a suspicious remark.

An AirTran spokesman says the it was a misunderstanding. The Muslim passengers say AirTran wouldn't rebook them Thursday and they had to pay for seats on another airline.

Passenger Kashif Irfan tells The Washington Post the confusion began when his brother remarked aloud that the plane's jets were next to his window.

Two other passengers reported hearing what they considered to be a suspicious remark.

AirTran spokesman Tad Hutcheson says the airline strictly followed federal rules.

Federal officials ordered all 104 passengers off the plane and re-screened them before allowing the flight to depart.

How long is it going to take before Kashif Irfan, his brother and 7 other Muslims own AirTran?

I'd say just about as long as it takes for the case to hit Civil court.

I highly doubt that. These days the airlines are fully endorsed to make knee jerk reactions with little or no repeal.

If two people say they heard something suspicious and protocols where follow nothing will happen.

my Canadian girlfriend was almost kicked off her flight home for possesion of a snow globe. They have my sympathy only to the point of resentment against the airlines for being no tolerance idiots

We all know Muslims like to blow up stuff, and a plane engine is great thing to blow up. (sarcasm)

I read a different report that said the FBI were called in and they tried to get the family back on the plane because they cleared their names but still the airline wouldn't let them on. O_O

Don't forget there are some readers/posters on this forum who think all Muslims are terrorists.

That's not me.

I think neocons that want to impose their religious values and norms on everyone is this country must be stopped from doing so.

How are they similar to nazi's?

Well they both do use twisted logic, dogma, hatred of those not like them, condemnation of others morals and lifestyles, intimidation, indoctrination, book burning...I could go on.

gee...Now that you bring it up there are remarkable similarities between some church groups and nazi's.

When I get on a plane, the only thing I am concerned about is were the barf bag is located. It does seem to be a strange comment the brother made given the times we are living in. I say better safe than sorry. IMO

When I had long hair and wore ripped jeans and flannel shirts I was always subjected to "random" searches of my carry on bags, but when I'm clean cut and look "respectable" I have no problem whatsoever.

Not really. Have you ever had a seat near one of the engines? It's quite annoying.

This is dangerous information. If the terrorists start dressing like normal clean-cut people, we're all boned.
