airight folks I go to AA meetings here in norman oklahoma and I meet alot of nice ppl BUT, I can not stand it when I meet pppl that are wanting to go get drunk or high does anyone know the true meaning of what AA means I like good clean fun and I like getting to know pppl yet folks back away when ever I say I am going to AA!!

then it's their problem...they have no idea of the struggle you face day in and day with the demons of drinking or drug use. This is what my EX used to tell ppl when he was going through AA and his "old" friends would hit him up to out drinking....he'd say I don't drink anymore because I break things. Things like faces, cars, windows etc. They finally got the picture and quit asking. He had to find a whole new group of friends.

Hi Faithful -- I been sobor for 16 yrs and I still go to meetings. I don't know how long you are sober, but in the rooms we learn PEOPLE, PLACES AND THINGS can take us back out.
The meaning of AA is simple -- don't drink, go to meetings, make sober friends, get a sponsor, and get into the steps.
This is a hard time of year for any alcoholic -- but I can tell you one thing about my sobriety -- it got better each day. The friends I've made in AA are life lines that help you to understand that you are not alone -- you have choices today to do the right thing for yourself.

i learned a long tome ago, people have to want to be sober. if they are partiers, chances are until they hit their own bottom, they arent wanting to hear anything about sobriety. ive noticed over the last couple of years that there are allot of court ordered people (on paper)going to the meetings here. i came up in the birthplace of AA (Akron Oh)been sober 22 yrs. stick to it, like Twich said ,it only gets better. the only way i know how to have fun is sober

True friends would not back away but instead they would understand you and support you. I say it is time to find a new group of friends that will do that.

You shouldn't be going to AA to find people to date and people in AA aren't always there for help. Sometimes the free coffee and food entices them or to make fun of others or they are in trouble with the law and must attend.

That is good that you are taking the completely sober road.....

Me on the other hand.....I am a pothead....I like to smoke, when it is there.

I won't go to the ends of the earth looking for it, nor will I buy it if I don't have the money to spare...

I do love the peaceful feeling though....LOL

Well, AA is private. So is church. I back away from people who say they are going to church....

Same here. I see church and a bar as essentially the same thing.

When I was pregnant, I went out with some of my friends.
One of my friends kept trying to get me to drink.

actually that is one time I will not drink or smoke....and I strongly disagree with people trying to get prenant people to do ANYTHING that could compromise the health of the baby...including smoking ciggs.
