Oh, Lindows you were to be so sweet.
Perfect Linux kernel; An awesome feat.
But, alas, you were too beautiful, dear.
Too perfect for Windows; I shed a tear.

We had such hope that you could fly.
But they gave up early and let you die.
Oh, my fallen angel; My true one hope.
If only they would have let you elope.

But you were so naive and susceptible.
And Windows was God and corruptible.
A match made in lonely Silicon Valley.
Lost to us in some vacant blind alley.

I alone will remember you with pride.
You computed; But; Alas, you died.
A vision in programming altered.
But to me you never once faltered.

Why, oh, why did the Gods transgress?
And left you in such a awful mess?
Tron would have loved you, dear one.
Rest in pieces; Their fun is so done.

I'm confused... Lindows lives on as Linspire. I believe they will
restructure it to take Ubuntu as their base, but they will continue to
distribute a value-added derivation of Debian (or Ubuntu) for the
foreseeable future. Unless you've heard some insider info?

Lindows was the name of a company and its main product: an operating
system built around the Linux kernel. The same company and product
exist today under the name of Linspire - you can check them out at their
easy-to-find website. It is not anti-virus, but if you used Linspire
(or any Linux distribution) instead of windows, you will not need
anti-virus. At least not for a -loooong- time.

With open source, you can sometimes get a lot more than you pay for.

Based in San Diego, California, Lindows, Inc. was founded in August 2001
by Michael Robertson with the goal of developing a Linux-based operating
system capable of running major Microsoft Windows applications. It based
its Windows compatibility on the Wine API emulation layer. The company
later abandoned this approach in favor of attempting to make Linux
applications easy to download, install and use. To this end a program
named "Click'N'Run" (CNR) was developed: based on Debian's Advanced
Packaging Tool, it provides an easy-to-use graphical user interface and
a slightly modified package system for an annual fee. The first public
release of Linspire was version 1.0, released in late 2001.[3]

In 2002 Microsoft Corporation sued Lindows, Inc. claiming the name
"Lindows" constituted an infringement of their "Windows" trademark.
Microsoft's claims were rejected by the court, which asserted that
Microsoft had used the term "windows" to describe graphical user
interfaces before the Windows product was ever released, and that the
windowing technique had already been implemented by Xerox and Apple
Computer many years before.[4] Microsoft sought a retrial and after this
was postponed in February 2004,[5] offered to settle the case. As part
of the licensing settlement, Microsoft paid an estimated $20 million,
and Lindows, Inc. transferred the Lindows trademark to Microsoft and
changed its name to Linspire, Inc.[6]

On June 15, 2005, Michael Robertson stepped down as CEO of Linspire,
Inc. He continues as Chairman and was replaced as CEO by Kevin
Carmony.[7]

Linspire bases their product code names on fish found around their
headquarters: Linspire/LindowsOS 4.5 was code named Coho; Linspire
Five-0 (5.0 and 5.1) and Freespire 1.0, Marlin; and Freespire 2.0 and
Linspire 6.0, Skipjack.

Oh, ok. That explains it then. I finished my associates degree in
computer repair and then went after my computer networking associates
degree at that time. Yay, Lindows was ressurected.
