Thanks everyone. I think I'll go get some lemons tomorrow I probably won't drink the juice straight, but all put a lot in my water bottle. I am going to lie down for a while, I'll check in later.

I have a real bad history with kidney stones. When I get stones I get six or more at a time. It is some of the worst pain I have ever experienced. I try to force fluids and rest. Do avoid tea. That is a big no-no for me. And if I get dehydrated I really set myself up for a bad bout of stones. The Dr said that's probably what triggered this attack. |

I spent all all day in the ER thinking I might have an infected appendix. It turned out to be a Kidney stone. Very painful, but much less serious. They sent me home to pass it with a pee straining kit. Anyone here passed a kidney stone or had to have one removed? Increase your water intake upto 6 litres/day regularly. Also, take regular lemon juice.Thats the key. Although passing of the stone through urine also depends on the size and shape of the stone. |

I thought kidney stones was calcium build up.I peed on out a few years ago about the size of a pea and it hurt very bad.I think they can break up kidney stones with high frequency sound.

It is called laser surgery, its painless. But thats the last option. The stone can be of calcium oxalate or calium phosphate. I hope you are taking pottasium citrate & citric acid syrup daily to avoid reoccurence, its is always adviced in renal stone cases. |

I passed a kidney stone in Feb. 2002 in an ER restroom. Passing it was the easiest part - everything that led up to it was excruciating.
After three 24 hr. "piss tests", it was determined that my left kidney likes to crystallize certain animal and vegetable proteins, and I had to change my diet. (My calcium was OK, my oxylates were OK, but my uric acid levels were through the roof) |

Kidney stones suck, I go through them a lot (I have terrible kidneys)...painful but very refereshing once they are out. Passing a stone isn't nearly as bad as the pain before that. |

(My calcium was OK, my oxylates were OK, but my uric acid levels were through the roof) yes, the uric acid goes up. Better to get the stone tested? and based on that a specific diet trigerring calculus formation can be avoided. Also, serum-calcium and oxalate is generally normal pathologically(in blood). In case of uric acid cystals, high protein diet should be avoided. |

Both of my kidneys are full of stones so I (literally) feel your pain.
About the lemon juice comment... I have heard that but no one has ever been able to tell me just how DRINKING lemon juice will work on stones in your kidneys. It has to pass through the stomach, be absorbed through the intestine into the blood steam. Your body will fine tune the pH of the blood before it passes through the kidneys. |

I had a kidney stone 30 years ago that for a couple of hours was mistaken for a tubal pregnancy by the ER staff, even though I kept telling them that wasn't possible. I passed it on my own which is such a relief. Back then, they did not tell me to change my diet. I drink coffee and lots of tea daily, sodas occasionally. I have never drank or used lemon juice frequently. I have not had another kidney stone since, but I did have my gall bladder removed. I hope your as lucky as I've been! I know how painful it is.

No one had told me in the ER that I had to save the stone - there was a heart attack emergency going on at the same time - and when they gave me the "screen cup", it was too late - thus the need for the "piss tests". |

I have had many stones. Two of them had do be crushed with Lithotripsy{sound waves}. Then you pass what feels like sans.Ten Percocets and five days later I was back in buisiness. Did you save the stone for your docto to analize?
Depending on it's chemical makeup they can somtimes be prevented. |
