I spent all all day in the ER thinking I might have an infected appendix. It turned out to be a Kidney stone. Very painful, but much less serious. They sent me home to pass it with a pee straining kit. Anyone here passed a kidney stone or had to have one removed?

Have not had a stone myself, but a coworker has. Her doc suggested straight lemon juice to help break it up. She said she did feel some relief, but still ended up going back to the ER. She is now prone to having them. Lots of water and little or no caffiene in the future should help prevent them. Good luck!

Totally NOT fun. Have had two. Stopped drinking soda. Well, as much soda. Still drink a little.

For a few hours today it was like being in labor. BUT I am still grateful it was not my appendix, & I am home tonight.

My dad had it...twice! The second time he had it, he didn't know it. He was in so much pain. My brother, sister, and I stayed with him at the hospital till past midnight. He was so grateful to have his kids there for him. My mom was out of town during that time.

I drink more tea than soda, but I read that tea isn't good either. Right now I have a half ginger ale & half pure cranberry juice. I am dehydrated, vomited up everything I drank today.

Hi Chick, flowerforyou havn't seen you around in a while. Nice picture.

I had to drive myself 10 miles to the ER, I am sure glad I didn't wait longer, because it got much worse when I got there. If I had stayed home another 20 minutes I would have not have been able to drive.

they do recommend that you stay away from colas and tea. they say the caramel coloring has something to do with the formation of the stones

What about clear sodas like ginger ale & 7 up? After being sick they taste so good.

The green teas, white teas, red teas, and herbal teas are not so bad for you.

It is the phosphates in the sodas.

Ahhh Of course that makes sense. I am not very sharp right now.

I drank mostly Mt. Dew. Not a caramel colored soda. And that was the culprit for me. They will probably test the stone if you find it so they can identify what you are ingesting that is creating them.

I have a real bad history with kidney stones. When I get stones I get six or more at a time. It is some of the worst pain I have ever experienced. I try to force fluids and rest. Do avoid tea. That is a big no-no for me. And if I get dehydrated I really set myself up for a bad bout of stones.
