Topic: I need some advice

As most of you know (because I posted last week, lol) I got laid off from my current employer. When I went to the office today to return some paperwork, my boss asked me to come back and go back on payroll. The only problem is she wants me to take a HUGE paycut in order to come back. She took away the EZ Pass the company supplied for my commute to the office, she took back my fuel allowance, and isn't offering any extra hours like I had before. Now, what I am left with is barely enough to survive on let alone do the commuting she wants me to do.

My question, how can I gracefully confront her and tell her that it isn't enough money? I'd make out better on unemployment rather than going back full time for the sh*t money. If that is her offer, I'd rather be laid off so I can find a better job. Any suggestions?

here in mi you wouldnt be able to collect unemployment since you turned down her offer

Before you do anything, since you accepted the job offer, you need to contact employment security and find out what your rights are. I believe the rule above applies here in Washington too. If you quit now, you may not qualify for unemployment benefits. I am afraid she may have you over a barrel, and your best bet now is to negotiate what you can out of her. Good luck.

Yea, that was my thinking. I am working at home tomorrow, so hopefully I can get ahold of unemployment and ask some questions. I think, since she offered me a job I have to take it. I just need her to be a little more reasonable with her offer.

Praying is what I'll be doing tonight. That is great advice as well.

Good luck with this. I hope you find peace with your decision. It's a tough situation all around.

Thanks! I am just trying to keep a level head and try to come up with a counter offer for her that isn't too far out there.

they can not offer less in order to negate paying unemployment.
every buisness in the country would have lay offs then hire you back at minimum wage......noway
check your local laws!!!!

go in tomorrow.....and have your questions ready to lead the conversation.

I AGREE WITH ONE OF THE OTHER PEOPLE ON THIS SITE. IF YOU TURN DOWN THE JOB OFFER, THIS CAN MESS UP YOUR CHANCE FOR UNEMPLOYMENT. I KNOW WHEN I GOT LAID OFF THEY WANT A LIST OF THE NAMES OF COMPANPANIES AND PHONE NUMBERS AND WHAT THE STATUS WAS AND THEY DO CALL THEM. YOU JUST NEED TO BE CAREFUL YOU DON'T MAKE A MISTAKE AND TURN IT DOWN AND CANCEL YOURSELF OUT. SHE WILL SAY THAT THEY HAD A JOB FOR YOU AND YOU DECLINCED IT AND NO UNEMPLOYMENT FOR YOU AND YOUR FAMILY ! THEY SPEAK BACK AND FORT WITH THE UNEMPLOYMENT OFFICE SO HANDLE WITH CARE ! BE CAREFUL HOW YOU HANDLE THIS SITUATION ! YOUR FAMILY COMES FIRST BEFORE NONETHING AND HOMELESS AND THE CHILD IS ASKING YOU FOR SOMETHING THEY NEED AT SCHOLL AND YOU DON'T HAVE THE MONEY!

What you are saying makes alot of sense, however is it wise to go back to work and be making substantially less money? What she offered me won't even cover my basic bills, that doesn't include feeding my child or putting gas in my car to drive anywhere. It sucks, I really like the job, and I know the company is having financial troubles, but what she offered is a slap in the face. If I go back and take her offer, we'll wind up homeless cause I won't be able to pay my bills. Like my mom said last night, "if I am good enough to call back, I am good enough to call back at full salary".

If it won't even cover the basic bills let alone transportation tell her so. She wouldn't do it if she was in your shoes. You are an intelligent adult, I assume that she is as well. Discuss it with her but, do not obligate yourself to having to pay to work. Try to keep doors open if possible. but, don't hamstring yourself doll. My heart goes out to you. Best of luck baby.

Thanks. I agree with you, she certainly wouldn't take this kind of offer, but expects her employees to do it. I did alot of thinking last night and have alot of scenarios written out that I'll present her with.

You know your value. Don't settle for less than you're worth. If it were me, I would tell the boss that I would consider coming back at a scale that reflects my value to the company, and if they can't do that...F**K EM! lol

I just talked to my boss...I told her I need to come back at full salary or I can't come back at all. I told her everything that's been said here (not who said it, but that I had last night to think things over).

I got my same position back...and for my full salary!!! She gave me a little more responsibility, but hell, I got my salary back! I am happy, I love what I do, and love the people I work with. She's a pain in the butt, but I think it's a prerequisite of a boss to be like that.

Thanks everyone for helping me through this and offering all the support and advice! I owe y'all big time!!!

Congratulations!!!

Glad it worked out - as it has been said before, once released and offered to be rehired with same company - they do in fact, advice the unemployment offices of the decision not to accept job offer making it difficult to collect unemployment benefits.

Kudos to you!!!!
