As most of you know (because I posted last week, lol) I got laid off from my current employer. When I went to the office today to return some paperwork, my boss asked me to come back and go back on payroll. The only problem is she wants me to take a HUGE paycut in order to come back. She took away the EZ Pass the company supplied for my commute to the office, she took back my fuel allowance, and isn't offering any extra hours like I had before. Now, what I am left with is barely enough to survive on let alone do the commuting she wants me to do.
My question, how can I gracefully confront her and tell her that it isn't enough money? I'd make out better on unemployment rather than going back full time for the sh*t money. If that is her offer, I'd rather be laid off so I can find a better job. Any suggestions? |

Don't take back the job whatever you do. You'll become locked in and it will keep you from finding a better job.
Just tell her you can't work for so little. She may then offer you a little more but still say no. Sounds like she is trying to get too much from you for too little. Move on and put all your energy into finding another job, not into working at one in which you're underpaid. |

I would say if you got more money laud off , go for that. there are probly better jobs out there

I would say if you got more money laud off , go for that. there are probly better jobs out there I'd actually get less money if I got laid off, but I have a disabled child who would qualify for alot of benefits I could get while looking for a better job. |

She is playing on you, she thinks you are desperate, because of the today's economy etc...that you won't leave her because of that. Don't fall for it. Have a poker face and act passively, and ask for more money and give her some BS that someone else is ready to hire you. The poker face is very important, don't give away any sort of desperation. By the way, I got my opinion about your boss, economy problems or not, she is f...ing a...hole. She did the whole thing to drop your salary. |

Sounds like she's tryin to see how desperate you are and if you'll come back for little or nothing. This is a ridiculous offer. You don't know need to be 'graceful, this is your livelihood, it directly effects your family and quality of life, just lay it on the line the same way she did. Good luck!!

2) i would agree, i am assuming that they were "forced" to take cuts, and the axe just happened to fall on you. Now she is feeling the strain of having less folks doing work, and is prolly getting backed up. If i were in your shoes, i would tell her if she really wants you back, thats no problem.....but all of the previous stipulations go along with it. There is no doubt that they can find someone to work for less, but thats not the point, she asked YOU back. |

Well, this is a hard question. With the economy being difficult at the moment for so many, some argue a job is better than no job at all. But if you know for a fact you could not live on this job she is offering you for whatever reason, or it will make you unhappy and leave you struggling, and you are confident you can find something better, then there is no real reason to accept it. It sounds like a tactic to prevent you from drawing unemployment personally. However, I would look into seeing what you unemployment situation is like where you are at, because I have been hearing some states are having trouble keeping up with it. Good luck.

I wasn't the only one who lost "benefits" that the company was supplying. She is cutting salaries, she is letting people go, she is offering commission only positions to people. |

Any suggestions? here in mi you wouldnt be able to collect unemployment since you turned down her offer I actually accepted her offer today, but told her that I needed to sit down with my finances and her pay offer to see if I can do it or not. |

Be really careful with her. If you turn down the job offer back, can that mess up your getting unemployment?? I don't know the rules on unemployment but check into it to make sure you are not messing yourself up if you decline the offer. Also, negotiate as they said above. Tell her you can't afford to come back at the lower rate, that you need the money for commuting, etc. Make her a counter offer, under what you had, but not the bare bones she is offering. It does sound like she was scheming all along. She obviously wants you back and considers you a valuable employee. Hopefully, she will bargain with you and be fair with you.
Jobs are really tight right now, I would hate to see you have no job at all and not be able to find a job either. Good luck. You are a smart lady and I hope things work out for you. |
