There is a point, when everything gets so much saturated with too much extremism/violence and things that are considered "tasteless" before, that you loose track and become so much part of it, that you didn't even realize how much you changed and you accept or take such a things granted, that are actually above/beyond what others consider acceptable. You only realize it, when you step back from the big picture and see it or someone else reminds you of it. This, or just everything became more relaxed and the standards of the yesterday have loosened up and moved up a few notches and what was considered tasteless or violent before, today it's the base level. Also the worst is, never realizing it and keep doing it.

Of course, I'm not talking about you, Samara, just writing it in a first person view.

I think that is kind of the point being made though Cat, the "respectability" factor is somewhat overkill in the US as compared to Europe.

People are always mad at me. I piss off like 6 new members daily.

Unfortunately, Americans have been programed into being "body perfect", which makes us overwhelmingly body concious.
I wish that we could all be comfortable with us being us, but as long as there are the starlets out there so damned skinny and so body perfect, the average citizaen will be worried about the body image.

Looking at the European side of things, there are individuals across the drink that seemingly have no worries about their bodies. A prime example is Amy Winehouse who abuses her body regularly to the point that she looks like a walking cadaver.

So the image is prevailing...the skinnier you are, the more desireable you are. Anyone who weighs a few pounds over the skellital stature is deemed undesireable.

An American example is the wonderful Britany Spears when she took the stage shortly after the birth of her second child with a less-than-fit tummy and she totally exposed it to the world. Granted, she should have not bared it all so soon after the birth, but shame on America for chastizing the girl for putting herself out there.

So where does this all stop? It's much more pressure on the females than it is on the men, but the male figures also have the same pressure...I just cannot explain the feeling that males incur.
Something to think about and much to ease up on already.
